What albums that are not Stevie related do you occassionally break out and play?

What albums that are not Stevie related do you occassionally break out and play? of course, they cannot be Stevie or Fleetwood Mac albums or have anything to do with the two. They also cannot be anyones greatest hits.

For me, I occassionally listen to Joani Mitchell's Blue or Concrete Blondie's Bloodletting. I also listen to soundtracks to such movies as Out of Africa or Terminator or the Hours or The Piano or Blad Runner.... a lot. I'm just curious what albums you have gotten a lot of use out of over the years.

Actually, Stevie Nicks &/or Fleetwood Mac are only a VERY small percentage of my listening pleasure; so, this list is much MORE than just "occasionally break out"...I listen to these fairly frequently:

1) Allman Bros Band - Live At The Fillmore
2) Derek & The Dominos - In Concert
3) Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus (deluxe edition)
4) Cream - Wheels Of Fire
5) Traffic - On The Road
6) Allman Bros Band - Shades Of Two Worlds
7) Derek & The Dominos - Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs (25th Anniversary box set, mainly)
8) George Harrison - Cloud 9
9) ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
10) The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
11) The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
12) Little Feat - Dixie Chicken
13) Traffic - Far From Home
14) Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsys
15) Roxy Music - Avalon
16) Blind Faith
17) The Beatles - White Album
18) George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
19) The Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels
20) The Motels - All Four One

And, lately, since I've been in a Janis Joplin tribute band for a while (called "Pearl"...beware, shamless plug ahead: http://pearl.neptune.net/, this one has been getting a helluva lot of plays due to my having to learn just about every song from it:

Big Brother & The Holding Company - Cheap Thrills

I'm a big fan of Joseph Arthur. I have other indie favs like Brookville and Home Video that I follow. I think Amy Winehouse is pretty great. I have all of Led Zepplin's albums. Same with Sheryl Crow. I have some Dire Straits albums because my parents drilled them into my head when I was a kid . I very much enjoy Heart... both their classic '70s period, along with the '80s kitsch. Like every other gay man on the planet, I love pre '98 Madonna. I also have some albums by Tom Petty, The Eagles, The Doors, and ZZ Top (I'm a native Texan... we ALL listen to ZZ Top!). I have Jimmy Buffet music for warm days spent by water. And tons of other random albums by everyone from Otis Redding to Matchbox 20. My music collection, much like myself, is pretty manic. But it's FUN that way! :D

It's interesting what people listen too. I too use to listen to the doors alot and also Heart. Little Queen, Dreamboat Annie, and Dog and Butterfly are great albums. I also listened to the Eagles and Bjork albums. I don't really break them out though anymore. It's like i've absord them. Well, actually I do listen Dreamboat Annie. I love that album.

I don't why I've become soo soundtrack and classical oriented. Maybe it's because the lack of words let my mind wonder more.

I have never even heard of Joseph Arthur. Hmmm. I don't know if anyone has listened to Breakfast in America by Supertramp but I used to love that album. I have never heard a full album from Dire Straits.

Currently in car CD player-
#1 David Nail - I'm About To Come Alive- a new country guy. He had three hits from this CD, and I've been OBSESSED with this, for the past nine months. My favorite CD of the past 5 years. There's a sadness in his voice, that just "does it" for me.
#1.2 - I fit almost all of Mick's Zoo's "I'm Not Me", on the same disk.
#2 Zac Brown Band - Foundation
#3 Johnny Cash- Sun Sessions
#4 Eagles - LROO Eden
#5 Fleetwood Mac - my hits
#6 a bunch of new dance stuff, that I'm trying to make myself like(Katy Perry, stuff like that). I throw late night pool parties, all summer long, and I'm trying to pretend to be somewhat hip!

This is the song of Joseph's that first caught my attention about a decade ago. Much of his newer stuff is quite edgy... I definitely hear a Lindsey Buckingham influence throughout his material:

I grew up hearing that album constantly :). It's a great one... and an interesting commentary on modern life.

I got the album, but I rarely listened to it since just about every song got massive airplay on FM radio back in the day. I've been starting to listen to Supertramp again after a 20+ year layoff.

I used to listen to their earlier albums (Even In The Quietest Moments, Crisis...What Crisis?, & Crime Of The Century) quite a bit...they were every bit as good as Breakfast In America, but other than a tune or two, here & there, after BIA got famous, they got little airplay.

I would say...

about 99.99% of what I listen to is not Stevie related - too many to mention.

Yeah - I think everyone in their mid-late 20s is like this with Dire Straits! I'm similarly eclectic and other favourites include:

Counting Crows (Adam Duritz is an incredible lyricist)
Kylie Minogue
Aimee Mann
Beatles
Allman Brothers
Emmylou Harris
Jackson Browne
Kate Rusby
Carpenters (For me, Karen is the greatest female singer ever)
Sheryl Crow
Bruce Springsteen
Duran Duran
Annie Lennox/Eurythmics
Shelby Lynne
Dusty Springfield
Matchbox 20 (not so much Rob's solo material)
Deacon Blue
Alison Moyet
Sugarland
Suzanne Vega
Melissa Etheridge
Roxette
Rosanne Cash
Natalie Imbruglia
Steve Earle
Bonnie Raitt
Girls Aloud
Bon Jovi
Neil Young
Heart
Texas/Sharleen Spiteri
kd Lang
Belinda Carlisle/Go-Go's
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Madonna (everything up until and including Ray Of Light but not since then and yes, I include Something To Remember - love it!)
Natalie Merchant/10, 000 Maniacs
Beverley Knight
Linda Ronstadt
Guns N Roses
3 Doors Down

Ok, that's a few, lol...

I absolutely LOVE this song! I've never heard it before and am very surprised. I'm going to download this. This is the second song I have downloaded from a suggestion from the ledge. I downloaded a song called Home by Edward Sharpe after someone posted it too.

For me, it's occasional that I break out a Fleetwood Mac record.

Blondie and ABBA are where I'm at right now.

McTrouble 03-02-2011 04:05 PM

When I can force myself to listen to stuff other than Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac, I put on:

David Bowie
Roxy Music
Blondie
Abba
Guns N Roses
Bon Jovi
Meat Loaf
Mamas & Papas
Beach Boys
Johnny Cash
Bobby Darin
Bruce Springsteen
Aerosmith
Dean Martin

And, dare I admit it, my Glam Rock (1970's) 6-CD set
