5:58 AM 2/24/2011 by Phil Gallo (Billboard)

The event will be held April 28-30 in Los Angeles.
Lindsey Buckingham will receive the ASCAP Golden Note Award at the sixth annual ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo, to be held April 28-30 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.

Buckingham, whose seventh solo album will be released later this year, will speak about his career as a songwriter, producer, guitarist and singer as a solo artist and as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Previously, ASCAP's Golden Note Award has been presented to Tom Petty, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks and others.

Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974 and appeared on the band's breakthrough album Fleetwood Mac, which featured his compositions "Monday Morning," "World Turning" and "I'm So Afraid." On 1977's Rumours, his songs included "Go Your Own Way" and "Second Hand News." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac.

Buckingham's solo career began in the early 1980s; his most recent release was 2008's Gift of Screws.

Lindsey Buckingham to Be Honored and Give Rare Interview at ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO

New York, NY, February 24, 2011: ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) is pleased to announce that on April 29th Lindsey Buckingham will be presented with the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award during the 6th Annual ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO. Immediately following the presentation, Buckingham will give a rare interview focusing on his incredible career as a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, member of Fleetwood Mac and a solo artist. The three-day EXPO takes place April 28-30, 2011 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

ASCAP's Golden Note Award is presented to songwriters, composers, and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones. Previous honorees include Tom Petty, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Garth Brooks, to name a few.

"From the classic California cool of Buckingham-Nicks and Fleetwood Mac to his ambitious solo work, Lindsey's distinguished career has earned him a permanent place in the history of American music," said ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams. "We're delighted to welcome him as a special guest at this year's EXPO and honor him with ASCAP's Golden Note Award."

Lindsey Buckingham's career began to take off when he and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac's core lineup of drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie and keyboardist/singer Christine McVie in early 1974. The former blues band, with the addition of "Buckingham Nicks," immediately morphed into a pop hit-making wonder. The group's eponymous album contained smash singles, including Buckingham's "Monday Morning," "World Turning" and "I'm So Afraid." However, it was their next album, 1977's Rumours, which launched the group into the pop stratosphere, propelled by Lindsey's tunes "Go Your Own Way" and "Second Hand News." Rumours earned the group a Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year and it remains one of the best selling albums of all time. Over the next several years, Buckingham was the principal producer on all of Fleetwood Mac's projects, including the experimental double-album Tusk, Mirage and Tango in the Night. In the early '80s, Buckingham launched his solo career with Law and Order, which spawned the Top 10 hit "Trouble." Other solo hits included "Go Insane" and "Holiday Road." Buckingham's career has continued to flourish—his critically acclaimed Under the Skin, released in 2006, was followed by the exceptional DVD, Live at the Bass Performance Hall and 2008's Gift of Screws. His next solo project is scheduled for release later this year. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Wow, that sounds like a fun event. And $350 for a three-day expo is not too bad. I assume it is open to the public... If nothing else, it will be interesting to see/hear music insiders speaking with other music insiders.

Does "later" mean late?

Well, if it was going to be May or June, I think we'd have heard by now. So, I do think later means late. Make room in your Christmas stocking.

somebody speculated on twitter (Nickslive:wavey:) that it might be late summer/early fall, similar to the last two albums. although i'd want to hear this CD sooner rather than later, early fall tour might be nice - as long as we can find out as soon as possible that it won't be may!

Yes. But let's not forget what Radiohead just did! They are total envelope-pushers, and LB is all about that and Thom Yorke. So maybe he'll surprise all of us. I have hopes we'll get it before then, but if I have to wait until winter I will. Any wait is worth it for new Lindsey stuff.

TrueFaith77 02-24-2011 04:43 PM

I think it's a mistake to release the album late in the year. Stevie and Lindsey got to get their solo jonez out they system asap.

Anyway, all this talk of release date surprised me that we've seen so much mention of the new album in regards to his two awards and to this MIX interview. And it hit me that both he AND stevie have had an unusual amount of pre-release build-up. That makes me think Lindsey will be sooner, but if not, could it be that this (the awards, articles, new albums even) build-up is toward Grammy buzz (thus a later Lindsey release) or even a BN project or FM project--in other words, cementing both the artists' reputation as legends... or were there articles about GOS this early?

Interesting observation, but I never quantified the award stuff with pre-release buildup for some reason. I believe Stevie's album is getting tons of push but there's relatively very little outside of this interview discussing Lindsey's upcoming album. I mean, even his website, his FB page, etc. is sparse or completely barren. I hope that there's tons coming but I take one day at a time with Lindsey. I don't ever expect things are going to be just so- other than he'll always wear the same outfit and comb his hair the same way. I don't know. That's the joy in being a fan of his. :)

TrueFaith77 02-24-2011 04:56 PM

True. I'm over-interpreting. I guess I just reading something into his receiving awards when he has an upcoming album, and all the press releases re: the awards mention the new album. But maybe it's not connected. Like when stars get a star on the walk of fame or whatever, it's usually in conjunction with promoting a new movie. But it might just be the opposite, he's getting an award and the publicists want to stress that he's still working on new material even though it's far in the future.

i hope you are not over-interpreting.:woohoo:

honestly though. i think it's just instant availability and amplification through search engines, twitter, fan sites, etc, for all these awards news. they really are pretty sparse news - 2 award announcements and that's it. conversely, look at that mix magazine article - nobody even knew about it before you dug it out, since it doesn't show up through search engines (at least it didn't yesterday).

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Fleetwood Mac frontman Lindsey Buckingham will be one of the keynote speakers at an annual songwriter symposium in April hosted by performing rights group ASCAP, organizers said on Wednesday.

Buckingham, 61, will discuss his career during an on-stage interview on April 29, the midway point of the three-day ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo. He will also be presented with the group's Golden Note Award, a prize previously given to the likes of Tom Petty, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder.

The expo, now in its sixth year, attracts almost 2,000 songwriters at all career stages from around the world to Hollywood. It is open to the public and to writers affiliated with rival groups such as BMI and SESAC. The organizations collect royalties for the writers and copyright owners of songs performed in public such as television, radio and arenas.

Other big names lined up so far for various panels include singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright, veteran composer/arranger Van Dyke Parks, Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell, Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik, film composer Marco Beltrami, and horror director Wes Craven.

Buckingham, along with musical collaborator and former lover Stevie Nicks, helped transform Fleetwood Mac from a venerated blues-rock band into a stadium-filling pop-rock machine after they joined in the mid-1970s. The singer/songwriter/guitarist composed such songs as "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk" and "Big Love" before quitting for a decade in 1987. He has also released five solo albums.

I want all new speech material too. No Gods on Mt. Olympus. No movie/painting. No "looking out for love" defensively. I want to hear something I've never heard before.
