Basically, the story with Sheryl, Stevie, and the Mac is this. Stevie felt outnumbered and alone as a woman in Fleetwood Mac following Christine's departure. Stevie talked about wanting to bring on another woman as a counterpoint. There was some discussion with Sheryl, who was a good friend of Stevie's and who had previously produced some of Stevie's album tracks from her album Trouble In Shangri La. Then Sheryl jumped the gun and started saying in the media that she was indeed joining Fleetwood Mac... before it had really been officially decided. This appeared to greatly anger Lindsey. Sheryl then ended up backing out of touring with the Mac following this very public discourse... which then set Stevie off.
In the end, I think it was a good thing Sheryl didn't join the band. Not that she wouldn't have been a neat addition. But I think the problem with Fleetwood Mac was the lack of dialogue between Stevie and Lindsey. I think they avoided really getting into it and letting their true feelings and desires be known during the Say You Will project. I think this lack of communication/honesty is why the album was so disjointed. I sense that Stevie and Lindsey have probably screamed and yelled at each other since, and that all parties agreed that SYW was a failure... and a different approach is needed next time around. I think they probably all realize now too that adding Sheryl would have just been slapping a band aid on an injury that actually required major surgery to heal.

Stevie said this in 2009: “We rented a studio and hired a crew,” Stevie said. “We were ready to go in and called her and needed her to come for two or three days to just play. It was Mother’s Day and she had invited 300 people in her family there. It was her first Mother’s Day as a mom and she could not do it. At that point she said “I am going to have to pass”. I said “I think you are making the right decision. You have a new baby, you have survived breast cancer and Lance Armstrong. I don’t think this is the right thing for you”. That is what happened with Sheryl Crow. She is still our friend and I still adore her. She is one of my dearest friends”.
While Sheryl came close to joining, no other female has been considered. “As far as having another girl in the band, after we went through that we really realised that there wasn’t going to be another woman that could come into this band who could fit,” she said. “I was looking at it three years ago as a buffer between me and Lindsey. Lindsey and I don’t need a buffer. Certainly Sheryl Crow and not any woman in the world is going to be able to get in the middle of Lindsey and me. The fact is if Lindsey and I can’t work out our problems by ourselves we might as well throw in the towel. That's what we are currently trying to do is work out own problems and certainly another person could not do that for us. Think about this – Christine has been gone since 1998 so I have been the only girl in this band for a long, long time. I’m used to it now. At first I was not used to it. After ‘The Dance’ was horrifying for me. She has been gone time and I’m fine with it now”.
By the way, Sheryl was at the Nashville Unleashed show (and I'm sure others), photographed with Stevie. Sheryl was quoted after the fiasco of saying that she was still friends with all of them. So, I don't think there was any hard feelings. But, I do think Stevie was a bit put out with Lindsey for spilling the beans that she and Sheryl actually had words over the situation. I think Stevie got more miffed with Sheryl than she wanted everyone to know, but Lindsey certainly knew about it and then blabbed it and Stevie spent the next several interviews putting her positive spin on it and saying what great friends they were.

Not according to the structure of that sentence. I think it's the journal.
