Dave Stewart Interview Slingshot Living

http://www.xool.tv/slingshotliving/a...ingshot-Living

Dave Stewart is featured in this radio interview. He talks about Stevie and how he encouraged her to write songs with other people.

The interview starts at about the two minute mark.

I really like Dave's idea of Stevie and Lindsey doing an EP together. It could be just what they need... working together outside of the Fleetwood Mac framework and stress, and not have to worry about making an entire album's worth of music. It could teach them to just enjoy making music together again. Perhaps that could set the stage for one truly kick @ss Mac album later. It seems like their old ways of working together have long been broken. Maybe doing something artistically lightweight and spunky could set them on the right track once more? I think their egos and taking themselves and each other far too seriously is what's held them back for so long. I'm totally digging Dave's push to get Stevie to think outside of her very outdated box (comments from the peanut gallery are ALWAYS welcome!).

I cannot watch this for some reason. Stevie really needs to get out of her box. She's been repeating herself for 25 years. Give us something new. Become artistically relevant, again. Been there, done that.

I would love if they did that! But this interviewer killed me.

Dave: "So I suggested the next thing you should do is make an ep with Lindsey and the two of them get together and write songs together!"

Interviewer: "Have you ever met Ringo?"

...umm, okay Larry King.

My question is - why an EP? A strange choice....

Easy... an EP is just a handful of songs. It'd be easy and quick to make. It'd be a no stress way of getting Buckingham and Nicks to work together again. It'd be the perfect way to prime the pump for a new Mac album. Get the two artists used to working together again, outside of the expectations and stresses of Fleetwood Mac. Perhaps so they could learn to interact in a healthy way again. To be able to appreciate each other's craft once more. To get ideas flowing in regards to a bigger project. I think it's actually an exceedingly fantastic idea.

Exactly.
My guess is that Stevie's voiced a hesitation to sign on for an entire FM cd/tour/whatever, and he's come up with it as a simpler alternative. It's a great idea, and I'd love to see it happen!

did they ever interact in a healthy way?

anyway, i find it somewhat weird that dave started dropping lindsey's name now the same way stevie seems to be dropping it all the time during interviews, no last name no reference just lindsey. she must have filled his ears going back and forth on whether or not she wants to work with lindsey... either that or he received one too many tweets about BN.

Ok, well that does make sense about the stress/pressure of "Fleetwood Mac".

I would love for them to do even a mini new BN project. Unfortunately, I doubt they would ever do it. But, I do think they'll re-release BN. Wouldn't that be a cool package though? BN and a new EP??

Well, he did play/sing/contribute to Stevie's album in some way, so there had to be talk about him in some context...

Artistically this could be a good thing... No pressure to acheive the #s of a new Fleetwood Mac album... They could release it as a package with the original Buckingham Nicks album.

Exactly. Although it sounds good in theory for them to work together "organically," I think the results would be kind of blah and watered-down. The beauty of FM is the alchemy of completely disparate, volatile elements and creating something unique and full of musical tension. I mean, look at Behind the Mask, which had a number of writing collaborations. Zzzzzzzz. The only time a collaboration in FM was truly successful was "The Chain," but, to be fair, it was a complete fluke- a mash-up of partially written song fragments thrown into a blender. The current formula (writing love/hate songs about each other separately) is a formula that has worked so beautifully for so many years; why mess with it now?

Oh god; this would be AMAZING. I hope it happens!

Also, does anyone have a good copy of Frozen Love? The MP3 I downloaded from BuckinghamNicks.net skips about all over the place. :(
