American Idol 10: Will Stevie be featured?
Since nobody created it yet, I will go ahead and start the obligatory Idol thread now that the new season is underway. This year's theme will be: Will Stevie finally appear on Idol? In my opinion, yes. Here is why:
-She's got a new album to promote. -The new album will drop close to the season finale. -Stevie's tour with Rod Stewart ends in the middle of the Idol season, so she's available. -Jimmy Iovine will be a regular mentor on the show. On the one hand, I think this would be utterly tacky and soul-crushing. But on the other hand, I look forward to any Stevie appearances on television and this is the type of exposure she really needs to get herself back on the public's radar after 10 years. Whether she is just there to perform or whether she becomes a theme for the week... I dunno. However, I do have a morbid interest in seeing a bunch of 17-year-olds butcher a Stevie song, and then watch the real deal come out and blow them away... not necessarily with her voice, but with her stage presence, phrasing and gravitas. That's how it's done, kiddies... |
God I hope she doesn't do it.....This is coming from someone who used to watch the show. It's bad enough hearing contestants butcher 1 Stevie song. A whole night's worth........I shudder.

I used to be all for this, but I really lost interest in American Idol after the first few seasons, so now I don't know so much. It sure as heck would be a big attention getter though.

I don't watch American Idol, but I think it would be a great thing for her in terms of publicity. It certainly has a huge audience.
And I could totally see it happening. I assume Warner would want her to do it, with an album to promote, and I'm sure she would be an appealing choice for Idol--not many artists have so many familiar songs. |
God. I have no clue anymore. They are running out of star mentors though, so maybe?
First episode of AI? YAWN. :( |

More than anything, I think the featured contestants are dull as dishwater. They all kinda sound the same. Sure, they can carry a tune, but it's so utterly soulless and nondescript. These Idol people seem to not pay attention to the record charts: big, over-the-top singing is not in style. Just ask Christina Aguilera. |
I've always wanted Stevie to be on there just for the publicity, and I think it is a possibility. It seems like before the last two years, only one girl sang a Stevie song and that seemed to be the only Stevie to ever make it on the show. Then two years ago, "Stevie Wright" told the judges she was named after Stevie Nicks and "Rooms on Fire" played in the background. Then last year had quite a bit of Stevie. Dreams was one of the few songs the groups were able to choose from during group day on Hollywood week. Then when they went live, some girl sang Landslide and another girl sang Rhiannon twice. I wouldn't be surprised if she did something on there. They usually have that one episode where "Idol Gives Back" and they have several veteran musicians perform. Last year Annie Lenox was on it along with some others, so I could easily see Stevie coming out and doing Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You and saying something about her new album. That being said tho, I heard they talked about Jimmy Iovine last night and mentioned some of the acts he has worked with, yet Stevie was not one of them. Le sigh...

I don't know, it has its ups and downs. I'd rather see her on the Idol Gives Back show at the end of the season performing instead of during the shows and have people butcher her songs. They need some real talent on that, I don't even remember who was on last year but it was pretty ****. Heart were on a few years ago, and aside from Fergie being a weirdo, it was a definite highlight. :D

The fact that when Jimmy Iovine was introduced and the stars he worked with were listed (U2, Tom Petty, etc.) Stevie was not mentioned - not a good sign.
Still, I hope I'm wrong. |
