Bonnie Tyler, What do you think about her

I think she's awesome, what do you ledgies think of her?

Meowi 01-16-2011 12:39 AM

I don't know much about her, but I know that Total Eclipse of the heart rocks.

SuperFleetwood 01-16-2011 12:44 AM

Oh wow, she looks WAY better these days that I would have ever imagined! For some reason, I expected her to age horrifically. I guess her voice is what took the brunt of her that, though... yikes.

LOVE Bonnie Tyler! How can you not?!

mezzoforte 01-16-2011 05:52 AM

Total Eclipse of the Heart is one of my favorite songs of all time, but I'll admit to knowing very little of her aside from that.
I would guess most Stevie fans like Total Eclipse--there's a reason a good portion of the world thinks Stevie sang it!

Seriously?? That'a ridiculous. It sounds NOTHING like Stevie at all! (Not doubting that people think it so but I don't understand how they possibly can!)

Other Bonnie gems include It's A Heartache, Holding Out For A Hero and Lost In France.

Yup! Google "Total Eclipse Stevie Nicks." Turns up tons of audio files and lyrics attributed to Stevie, so to Fleetwood Mac. It's actually kind of hilarious.
I would never confuse them, but it is a similarly wavering, emotional style, IMO.

I don't hear any similarity at all. Jim Steinman writes loud, long, epic, almost orchesteral material. Other than the fact that it's a love song and that's what Stevie so often writes, I really can't imagine her doing anything like it. O focurse that's just me. There's really no right or wrong answer for this kind of thing!

I meant more similar vocally than in writing. Yes, Jim Steinman is a VERY different from Stevie as a writer.
I can see casual listeners not being that aware of either writer's distinctive style. Eh, it's a big mistake, and a hard one to make in the internet era. I'm just saying I can see how it happens.

It's like when people think Blondie sang that Divinyls "I touch myself" song, it's ridiculous

I quite like Bonnie Tyler, although, I only really know Total Eclipse and I Need A Hero. There are some amazing covers out there of the latter song.

I like her...

, I actually own the cd of "Faster Than the Speed of Night" and it's a good album - I give her credit, she can sing her ass off!!!

Sahara 01-16-2011 12:13 PM

I don't know her music very well, but I do love Total Eclipse and especially Making Love Out Of Nothing At All

Also, watching that video really drives home how much a fully seated venue kills atmosphere :distress: What a shame to have this rock and roll epic playing and see everyone sitting.

Nothing pisses me off more than having fun at a concert and some lame ass stoners (or drunks) behind you yelling at you to sit down. It's a CONCERT people. If I'm having fun and want to stand with the rest, I will stand. I'm also short and sometimes have to. I just think it's disrespectful to the artist if they're up there rocking out and trying to feed off YOUR ENERGY and they see everyone sitting down like lame asses. The atmosphere is supposed to be fun.

Yeah, I own that one too. I had it originally on cassette. Still love it!

Total Eclipse of the Heart is my favorite song, ever! It's so over the top, plus the creepy video, how can you top it?
