Signatures

How come I can never get a signature banner to work on this site. My show signature is on, but it never works.

If you want to use a proper signature at the size intended (I know that the uploaded one does shrink) you'd do best just uploading the picture to a site such as Photobucket or Flickr. Then all you have to do is paste the html code in your signature box :). I tried [IMG] myself at first because most sites accept it in signatures but in this instance it doesn't work so you're best with the full html code.

Just curious - When I was a regular here, signature pictures weren't so staggeringly large. When did using massive hi-res photos and large animated gifs as signatures become commonplace?

Who knows. Has there ever been a cap on the size/width/file size of signatures?

To be honest, I don't remember. I haven't been a regular since 2006.

ETA: Forget it - I did a search and found the answer myself. It's left to each poster's discretion and, ironically, it seems to have first started happening in 2006! Indeed, I noted it then. Ah, Nancy, where has your memory gone. :( In my defense, though, it appears to have become much more prevalent, and the signatures even bigger.

Ever since morons with no common sense or decency decided that huge signature files were cute, despite the fact that they make pages take longer to load and make accessing the Ledge on a smartphone with a wireless data connection virtually impossible. STOP IT WITH THE ANIMATED GIF SH*T ALREADY!

Can you see my signature now? For some reason I can see it now.

Silver Springs 01-15-2011 04:09 PM

I can see it! I wonder why you can't :s Have you changed your settings to allow you to see Signatures and Avatars?

I can see it now. But it just sorta of appeared after an 1.5 hours.

Services like photobucket allow people to get around the size limit imposed by the bulletin board software. It's a problem, indeed.

It was worth persevering with -- it's beautiful! :)
