Red Rover
So I have recently fallen in love with Red Rover. Does anyone have any demo/solo/acoustic/live/alternate versions of it?
|
It was recorded for Gift of Screws so iirc the "original" Gift of Screws version and the SYW versions are the same, so no demos. Seen it on a few bootlegs though and it's on his Soundstage DVD, he lowers the key and slows it down a bit live but it's still great! I'll PM something your way shortly

This is from one of Lindsey's tour videos...I took just the part where he's doing a soundcheck, playing Red Rover. I like it 'cause at the time I was trying to figure out which guitar part Lindsey was playing ( and which Neal or Brett was playing ) and this showed me clearly that Lindsey was playing both of the parts I was hearing ( I don't play, obviously :o )!! I shoulda known... http://www.mediafire.com/file/v7nmgw...k_RedRover.avi ----------------------------------------- |

thanks for the tour video reminder, forgot it had red rover on it... |
This was my least favourite song on SYW for ages, but now I can't get enough of it. What a tour de force, and those lyrics, and those vocals that show everything his voice can do ... sublime.

I must say, I never could get into Red Rover, but over the past few months it has seriously became one of my favorite Lindsey songs ever. And I love love love the Soundstage version. I wish they would have played Red Rover and Thrown Down for Unleashed. So sad that SYW was completely forgotten.

Hearing Red Rover on the SYW tour was so neat. It was like Lindsey had truly stepped out Stevie Nicks shadow, and showcased his own quirkiness. There were even official Red Rover sanctioned t-shirts for that tour. I still remember seeing them like it was yesterday... hard to believe that's been 8 years ago now. I always liked the song, and it was even my bf's (at the time) fav song on the album. I hardly ever listen to SYW these days... thanks for reminding me to play this song, it's still great and very fresh sounding nearly a decade later!

Red Rover definitely took a while to grow on me but now I love it a lot. I've read a few reviews and it seems like most reviewers just passed it off as a Big Love acoustic clone... they're both amazing songs, I think Red Rover is more focused more towards the vocals while Big Love acoustic is more of a guitar showcase. Re:Murrow on the Soundstage DVD... "Ed Murrow had a child, in his grave, the damn thing went wild, in his grave" I really don't like the solo though... too slow a song for I'm So Afraid's solo. I didn't really expect him to pull off the studio version's though. |
