Stevie's 1988 Album Plans
South Florida Sun-Sentinel, September 29, 1988
-- This much can be said for Stevie Nicks` solo career: It won`t suffer for lack of material. ``I have about 50 songs from the last two years,`` she reports. ``And if you want to go back through the archives, I`ve probably got another 300.`` Nicks is now wading through some of those songs with producer Rupert Hine, selecting tracks for her fourth solo album, which she hopes to release early next year. Meanwhile, she`ll go into the studio with Fleetwood Mac and producer Don Gehman to record two new songs for a greatest-hits album that`s due this fall. But it`s her solo album that Nicks is most anxious to work on. ``My music outside of Fleetwood Mac has always been really special to me,`` she says. She`s already done three songs: The Tragedy of One`s Own Soul, Dial a Number and Don`t Treat Me Like a Stranger with Kenny G. Once her record is finished, she plans to make another Mac album, do a solo tour, then tour with the band. ``I`m trying really hard to make everybody happy,`` she says. |
When the album was released I wondered why those songs were nowhere to be found. Those songs were also mentioned in a Rolling Stone issue.

Anyways, those songs could have easily been songs that had been for a previously planed tracklisting, and at the last minute, they got removed for other songs |
I am so glad she went with the album title "Rock A Little" with the crystal ball and witchy black outfit on the front and that beautiful beaded headdress photo on the back instead of the proposed Mirror, Mirror album. I couldn't see RAL and the era being anything but and I wouldn't toy with history. I think even though it's a dark time for her she is very proud of that time period and album and so am I. Wouldn't go changing a thing!

Yes, all of those songs have been leaked, being on the Masters Reels. "Tragedy Of One's Own Soul" is in a different form as "Lily Girl", having many of the same lyrics and the exact same musical track.
There are several vocal takes of "Dial The Number", seven, I believe. (The song's music is co-written by Sandy Stewart and was recorded originally for The Wild Heart). "Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" is on the Masters in a shorter version, complete with backing vocals (including that male vocalist from "Real Tears"!). There is also a 7-minute version on the Masters with many more lyrics. The writing on the Reels indicated these songs were recorded in February 1988, and lists the producer as Jimmy Iovine. Weird, huh? Maybe the producer listing was an old one leftover? |

Here's a link to the folder where these songs can be downloaded. They're all stinkers, really. It's no wonder they were all nixed. Ha!
http://www.mediafire.com/?dr2qui33yoh2y The numbering is a mistake - there are only five tracks on this particular reel. Oh, I love all of them! Stevie's lyrics on "Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" break my heart. I especially love the link with "Juliet".
Pass some more Kool-Aid for me!!! |
