Favorite Lindsey solo album

I did a similar poll at Miss Stevie's board earlier today, so I thought I'd do the same thing for Bucky's board while I was at it. Anyways, pick your fave solo album and as usual, my silly answers are in good nature and not meant to be taken seriously.

Oh wow! This is like Sophie's Choice *frets*. I guess I have to go with Go Insane, with emphasis on the fact that Out Of The Cradle is a VERY close second.

Out Of The Cradle... it's heads and tails above anything he's ever done. Don't get me wrong, Go Insane is terrific fun, and Gift Of Screws is a terrific all around album... but Out Of The Cradle is in a league all of it's own.

iamnotafraid 11-17-2010 09:29 PM

I 2nd that Louie. Out Of The Cradle it is.
The others might have better stand out
songs. But as a whole OOTC wins.

I voted Gift of Screws just because I absolutely love EVERY song on that album. I'm still getting into OOTC, so maybe I'll change my mind. Usually albums take a while to grow on me.

bucklind17 11-17-2010 11:07 PM

OOTC was this epic huge album in my mind... until Gift of Screws came out. I still love OOTC but I think Gift of Screws is a superior album.

I couldn't pick...it was too hard :o I can tell you that it would never be Law and Order, though Bwana is great. Under the Skin... all those songs are great live, but I rarely listen to the album. OOTC, GI, and GOS are all the best to me - equally - but for different reasons. I'd never recommend GI to a new listener, but I adore it and it suits my mood a lot of the time. GOS and OOTC are both near perfection, but still, GI is too, in it's own way... I can't believe I can't decide. :( Sophie's Choice is right!!

I'm glad that these polls are called "favorite" albums.. cuz I must admit that though L&O is not technically his greatest achievement, it's my absolute fave.

MissLadyLoki 11-18-2010 09:07 AM

As for myself, I gotta go with OOTC. Just an all-around fantastic album IMO

This was tough! Love Lindsey solo period. Love Gift of Screws but I still have to go with Out of the Cradle.

Tough:

Law and Order: my ideal Buckingham SOUND plus the essential Buckingham theme: psycho-journey to the source of the pop sublime experience.

Go Insane: a cohesive whole--his response to the synthesizer 80s? AND Thriller?? AND Eraserhead?!

Out of the Cradle: It plays like a (slightly overlong) pop symphony but it, strangely, slips through my fingers. Gorgeous but lacks... substance?

Under the Skin: A challenging experiment that features a disarmingly bold, new self-consciousness to the lyrics and a bizarre sound that tells us: THIS is what happens when Lindsey goes into the studio to recreate the impact of the live acoustic "Big Love." Mad man.

Gift of Screws: If I must choose--and I must--this is the winner. Right in time for vinyl to come back in vogue, Lindsey teaches the youngsters how to flawlessly shape an album, to develop an emotional/philosophical/narrative/sonic arc and to rock out vinyl's four corners. If Rumours became a phenom by chronicling the loves and breakups of the band's members, Gift of Screws--as its title suggests--reveals the Love--the essence--that greased its wheels.

No. It lacks Drums. Real sounding drums. Where the syndrums perfectly match with the rest of the music on Go Insane, here the real ooomph of an analog drumsound would have given these song the life they lack now. Feel. All those songs have feel, but the sound does not.

For me it's not the winner, but otherwise, I agree on this beautiful description.

My winner still is Go Insane, because of it's insanity yet coherence. Great album.

I'm sure he'll release one when he feels it's the right time. There's always a method to dear Mr. Buckingham's madness :p
