New Lindsey Album/Old Songs Poll

Using the fabled Gift of Screws sessions as a source, Lindsey has already squeezed 3 albums worth of atar from that rose. Is a fourth on its way?

Here are those songs that seem (to my knowledge) to be remaining from the GOS sessions:

Deep Dense
Gotta Get Away
Given Thing
She Smiled Sweetly
The Singer Not The Song
Wear You Down

Would be interesting to find out which ones people WANT to see the light of day.

I adore his version of She Smiled Sweetly (and to a very slightly lesser degree TSNTS) but since we already have a pretty much finished version of it that only needs mastered I'd rather it didn't make it. I'd like it to be an album without any more of the Stones covers.

As for the ones like Given Thing, Deep Dense and Wear You Down - I'd be more than happy to have versions of them because the version we have at the minute are real demos (unlike the original GOS album which were unmastered final mixes as opposed to demos) and I'd like to hear how he worked them up in to full tracks. Some of them were mere sketches by Lindsey's normal production standard so they could really have changed.

I definitely want to see all new songs! Ready to move on from those demos I've been listening to for so long though I adore them! ;)

Good answer. You should vote! :)

I'm trying to decide between voting for the three demos or for "all new" tracks. I'd almost consider fully recorded versions of those songs as new songs... hmm...

The only one that really jumps out to me there is Wear You Down. It's downright wrong that it hasn't seen a proper release yet. I love Lindsey when he's angry and bitter and generally being a creepy, vindictive so-and-so (see also Come and a bit of Wait For You -- the real version, with the real lyrics, none of this "what's Twist Of Fate?" nonsense :p) It's also oddly upbeat and I always find myself dancing to it. It's awesome from start to finish. And it needs a release now.

She Smiled Sweetly would be wonderful to hear on a more finished basis, maybe perhaps with his artistic style that he had prior to GoS and UtS.

I think Deep Dense and Wear You Down deserve to be finished and put out properly - I adore almost everything about these two songs. And, imho, songs from GOS sessions show Lindsey at one of his peaks, both musically and as a lyricist. Although I love some of the newer songs from UTS (Castaway Dreams) and GOS (Underground), I think original GOS leftover songs are still among his strongest (Gift of Screws, Down on the Rodeo, Wait for You). Also, I think some of the new songs on GOS (Time Precious Time, with that twirling water impression) would work better as instrumentals.

Although, considering that Deep Dense (in a very different version) was written by Stevie, maybe it should be on the Mac album - as long as it's Lindsey's version. His arrangement of that song reminds me of Sisyphus - it's like a hard repetitive work with no good outcome.

Given Thing could also be great if/when finished but the demo version is so raw that it's hard to tell where it would ultimately go.

I didn't like I am Waiting at all, with or without Stevie, but I absolutely love Lindsey's version of She Smiled Sweetly, TSNTS and Gotta Get Away. Since they are covers maybe they can be put out as additional tracks either for Lindsey's or Mac CD (like Dylan's song on SYW - also sublime).

Could someone please fill me in on these unreleased tracks? I'm very aware of GOS and love the album, but I haven't heard the songs listed above.

I do too...love them both. I only voted for SSS though, along with WYD. As has been mentioned, we already have wonderful versions of all his bootleg songs, so I guess for me, all new songs would be a bonus...but...as was also mentioned, some of those bootleg songs are just too good to keep for just us haredcore fans, and so, should be on a true release. For that reason, I kept it to just two from the bootleg. My favorite of his Stones covesr ( SSS ), and my favorite remaining of Lindsey's own songs ( WYD ).

Basically, there was a leaked version of GOS that came out years before the actual finished GOS. Many of those songs eventually made it onto either UTS, or onto FM's SYW. Only GOS, Shuffle Riff ( aks Wait For You ), and Twist of Fate ( aka Right Place to Fade ) made it onto the official GOS.

Here's their description:

"Unreleased album from 2000 / 2001

MP3s of this CD surfaced on the internet in 2001 and are believed to be the mixed tracks but not mastered tracks from "Gift Of Screws", recording date believed to be 2000 / 2001, this collection is a copy of the submitted CD of Gift Of Screws. This collection contains the only copy of the lossless files currently in circulation. No editing of the tracks have been done and the songs are brought to you exactly as on the CD."

I wonder if Lindsey receives your memos!

I hear you, but covers are the kinda thing Lindsey do so I don't mind. And these Stones covers are BEAUTIFUL.
