I miss Sisters, y'all

I don't know if I've seen this particular version before. Stevie doesn't really do the typical vocal acrobatics here that Sisters was known for. It just begs the question of why Stevie permanently put this one to rest. It seems like her modern voice could pull off a performance of this ilk. Why does everyone think she no longer performs Sisters?

I have to wonder if it's because she relates the song to her drug fueled past, and wants to keep all that in her rear view mirror. I used to think it was because she was afraid she could no longer pull off this song vocally... but I'm not sure if I believe that to be the reasoning anymore.

Compare this version to the Mirage Tour one we all know… This song needs the “vocal acrobatics” you talked about, the passion… And I’m afraid she’s not able to do that anymore (hey, the girl is 62), and maybe that’s the reason Sisters is out… forever. And yes, I miss Sisters too, and Angel, and...

I think she can still pull it off vocally, but for some reason she likes to hold herself back on stage. So I think it is just a matter of her not wanting to try that hard :[

Stevie's said that she's always suffered from some serious stage fright, so maybe she can't do those wild and crazy performances as unselfconsciously as she used to because she doesn't have the powdered/liquid courage backing her up. Or as Louie's suggested, she tries to stay as far away from the person she used to be, and untamed and deranged performances were staples of her druggie days.

Perhaps she's assuming the wild performances are one of the reasons critics used to relentlessly mock her, and she's actually getting respect from them now that she doesn't do that anymore. Or maybe menopause and getting older have hit her really hard, and she just doesn't have half the energy she used to have or even the ability to move around like she used to do. Or, like you've suggested, she's just lazy and is doing the least amount of work for the most amount of money.

Maybe it's a combination of the above, or maybe it's none of these things at all. We'd have to ask Stevie.

I can totally see them doing this live nowadays. This particular version, I mean. With very little movement and a nice little guitar solo from Lindsey.
It's not the most exciting thing to watch, but it would be nice to see live..

well, she does gold dust woman and that's about drugs.

and she does rhiannon, and we all know that's better when she does the rippin' vocals, so who knows. the reception of SOTM always seemed to be pretty good (even without the vamped up crowd cheering) so i'm not sure why. it seems she only does one tusk song per "era" of tours which is interesting/sad considering most people believe tusk songs to be her best work ever.

I think it was the only group song (from that configuration) that was only ever an encore.

It might have been pretty darn cool to use it as an encore on the Wild Heart tour, but she never used it at all solo. As for doing it now, I don't know. that would be weird--it seems like such a relic, such an artifact of a long-gone time & place.

It would be odd. That song isn't the vibe that Fleetwood Mac gives off anymore, is it?

I thought you meant "Sisters" as in Bobbye Hall lol. She was such a fun addition to Stevie's tours in the 80's. I say bring her back!

petep9000 10-22-2010 02:15 PM

Bobbye? You mean 'Sistah'

petep9000 10-22-2010 02:18 PM

..and bring back Aliscia Wright too, and REALLY have a sistah party. It would be like 'Waiting To Exhale', sitting around drinking margaritas, braiding each other's hair and talking about how their no-good, down-low men always let them down.

What he said.

How about instead of Sisters of the Moon, Stevie sings Sistah Honey? Admit it. It'd be awesome in all of it's cheesy 80s glory.

So does Rhiannon, but that sure doesn't stop her from murdering it during every single show for decades! :p Modern Rhiannon is so, sooo bad. I can't hear it without wincing. :distress:

Who knows, with Stevie pulling out a different Tusk song with each successive Mac tour this past decade, Sisters may be in line. I just hope Angel isn't in that line... it was boring back then, and would be super awful now!

I'd like to hear 'Angel' actually, as long as they do it uptempo (like from the 'Tusk' tour) and not plodding like the album version.
Stevie should just do a 'Tusk' medley, 'Sara', SOTM, 'Angel', BC and 'Storms'; string them all together but as a medley (like Diana Ross used to do with her old Supremes stuff) and only sing the important parts like the first verse and chorus and whatever 'hook' the song is famous for.

I too, am a huge fan of "Angel" - my favorite being the live version she did on the Bella Donna tour with the great lead piano and the break down in the middle where it's just the girls singing to the drumbeat ("and to those that I love like a ghost through a fog...")

I think Stevie could totally pull this version off again! It's so much fun!
