Driving me crazy
I cannot find the original videos for "Talk to Me" and "I Can't Wait". They are different from the ones that were put on the Crystal Visions DVD. They were edited differently and IMO were better than the ones put on the DVD. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

The "I Can't Wait" original/World Premiere video is exactly the same as on Crystal Visions. I taped the World Premiere on MTV in 1986 ~ it's the same.
However, there is a different edit for the video of "I Can't Wait" that can be seen on Stevie's Meldrum Tapes interview with Molly Meldrum (taped in February 1986) that aired in Australia. There are actually a lot of differences in that edit. My favourite is where Stevie and the others are shaking their fists around ~ there's a lot more of that in this edit. I'm not sure if that edit of the "I Can't Wait" video was for Australia only, or if it was also for the UK and Japan as well. But the US version, original and otherwise, has always been what is on Crystal Visions. The original "Talk To Me" was aired several times over a period of a few days (not just "once") in Late December 1985, but was replaced very quickly. That original edit is wonderful, and should have been a bonus on Crystal Visions. |
BTW, there is a different edit of the Flashdance-esque video of "Stand Back"; some different treadmill footage. Also more of the twirling "la la la" Stevie.
"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" has a different edit, with a few differences. "Sometimes It's A Bitch" has three videos for it: 1. The Crystal Visions official version with the lip-synch scenes. 2. Version with no lip-synching and many more shots of Stevie throughout her career. 3. The Japanese version, with extra, different lip-synching scenes, as well as more Stevie & The Flag Cape footage. It's a much better edit!!!!!!!! Two "Edge Of Seventeen"s, of course. Two "I Can't Wait" edits. Two "Talk To Me" edits. A RockAmerica edit of "I Can't Wait" for dance clubs/video bars, using the Extended Rock Version. "Seven Wonders" has two edits. |
The I Can't Wait edit for Australia is actually the first version of the video, this is because it was the lead single from RAL in Australia, so they rushed the video over without editing it as much, it was on youtube a while ago without the audio, it even has parts where stevie smiles at the camera and breaks the character of that serious hard-rocking hair flipping rock chick seen in the Official world premiere video.

That makes total sense! The Rock A Little tour program shows the "I Can't Wait" filming as in January 1986. The UK 12-inch single was released in January as well. They must've rushed like Hell to get that quick edit out!
Yeah, that shot of Stevie smiling in the video is hilarious! I'm trying to remember what other differences there are. I have it on VHS, a very good quality copy, but haven't had a VCR in awhile. Aren't there a few more awkward dance sequences? |

That is Stevie's best interview!!! She's just so honest about things with Molly.
I love how she quotes herself from "Thousand Days" in the interview! |

I just went on You Tube looking for the I Can't Wait Australian edit (which I couldn't find) but I found I Can't Wait from Jones Beach '86 (the first Stevie concert I ever went to.)
This is the one where she sings a line from Whole Lotta Trouble at the end (it's at the 5:05 mark): BTW, I have the Australian edit of I Can't Wait on DVD (it's from the My Top 11 show she did when she was in Australia for the Melbourne Symphony Orch shows.) If I can figure out how to upload it, I will. |
