1976 rhiannon live performance

I watched a documentary called Dont Stop the other day which featured the most incredible live performance of Rhiannon from 1976, Stevie absolutely rocks and sent tingles down my spine when i heard it, she really does not hold back at all in this fantastic performance.

I would love to buy this on audio, does anyone know of its existence?

You've come to the right place :D

The Version you refer to is known around the Mac/Stevie community as the 'Rosebud Version'.

thats the one buddy!

that sends the blood pumping through my veins

so why is it known as the rosebud version and is it possible to get this on cd/dvd/vinyl?

~GoldDustWoman~ 09-17-2010 08:29 AM

I think its called Rosebud cause it's the best one they've done? Also maybe it was never made to be released on a cd/vinyl?

rsjolivieri 09-17-2010 08:36 AM

tahnks, do you know where this was performed and why it was filmed etc, it looks to me like no audience is there.

btw i heard about your dream i wish she would come and see me in my dreams but i dont ever remember my dreams anyway, too much transcending i think!

~GoldDustWoman~ 09-17-2010 08:51 AM

I have no idea where it was filmed or why. If i did I'd tell you. As for the dream was weird, I don't think i've ever had a dream about a celebrity before.

It's called Rosebud Version because it's from a documentary called "Fleetwood Mac: a film by Rosebud"...I believe it was done by Mick Fleetwood's daughter Rosebud, but I've never got confirmation on it. It's never been released officially on video, but performances from the film have been included in lots of documentaries and TV shows. Apparantly it was shot for promotional purposes and several songs were distributed to TV shows and shown as if performed live there. Copies of the full documentary have been floating around for years. I'd like to find a high quality one myself, but have had little luck here asking for one. You can search the forum here for Rhiannon Rosebud and get lots of discussion on it.

The clip from YouTube that has the beginning cut off - that also has "whistle stop" logo on it is the CLEAREST and BRIGHTEST copy I've seen. I am hoping to find a copy of the documentary or at least the full "Rhiannon" in this quality. Let me know if you have any luck.

Well... In 'Citizen Kane' the "rosebud" reference was about a sled from his childhood that he fondly recalled- Spoiler alert for classic film novices: Rosebud is a sled.
So- Citizen Kane... ' C Kane'--
'Cain' was '70s slang for cocaine, and a ("sled") ride that the band was enjoying, and I think the documentary name/credit was an inside joke, A film by Rosebud, for that reason.
It could be that I'm reaching, but Mick wrote in his autobiography about his impulse to give a coke dealer an album credit in the Rumours years, so I think the 'rosebud' reference may have been a coded cocaine reference.
'Citizen Kane' - the film - still had a loyal LA following in the 8os, so maybe it did in the 70s, also. I don't know. The drug for sure was popular enough that people from Eric Clapton to Jackson Browne on up and down had cocaine songs. So, why not a documentary?
I don't know of any area in California, the US or parts of Europe that has a town, city or provence known as Rosebud, though!
Maybe in Asia?
Oh, and Mick's 2 young daughters were seen in the 'Rosebud' documentary - both little girls; so, no, they didn't film or direct it! They must be in their late 30s now, or 40ish, those 2 little girls enchanted by an 'enchanted' Stevie kneeling down to talk with them.

Yes, I think that's why the fans call it Rose bud. It was the production company for this marketing film.

The soundstage stuff -- Rhiannon, Say You Love Me, Go Your Own Way, Rhiannon -- looks like something filmed in spring 1976, maybe when the band was preparing to hit the road (they played all summer). They had already started recording "Rumours," but they wanted to get out there & tour a bit, too. They played all those wonderful stadium shows, with Stevie's chiffon flapping in the wind.

You Make Loving Fun on Rosebud is good, yes, baby, good, good, mighty good, baby, but it's also weird because Christine is using a board called a Roland EP10. Why is she using this? I have NO idea. The best plausible explanation gets $10 from me.

VH1 Classic showed Rosebud about ten years ago. That's about the best quality you're going to find.

Too many vodka tonics and not another keyboard around.
