Ticket prices for next years tour and venues

I was thinking about this earlier today, and I thought I'd start a discussion on this subject. I noticed that John Mellencamp is touring this fall, and he's playing alot of 4-5 thousand seat theaters. Without having the #'s right in front of me, I would think his and Stevie's careers are similar in sales and name recognition. I think in light of the lack of sales at some of the Unleashed shows, and also going back to Stevie's tour that I saw in 2005, in which some shows sold poorly, I would think that promoters would be reluctant to do her shows even in Amphitheaters, much less large indoor arena's. I really believe you will see Stevie's tour in the 5 thousand or so theaters. As far as ticket prices go, and I know I'm probably dreaming here, I would think that the top price would be $100, but I'm sure it will be more. Thoughts?

I would love it if the top price was $100! But it is Stevie, so you never know. Also, speaking of Stevie's next tour, she hasn't been to Austin since 1989. Sarah McLachlan is coming to the Austin Music Hall in November, and it is this newly remodeled, quaint place here in Austin and the most expensive seats are $62. The venue seats 4400 people, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Stevie will play there with top price of maybe $110.

The prices for the "Not a Tour" were already well in excess of $100, which could partially explain why some of the dates did not sell particularly well. Depending on the market, I think she could still pack the sheds/ampitheaters respectably. But my hunch is that she is still drunk on the easy money that comes from playing casinos. I don't think she is at the point where she would be struggling to fill a 3000-seat theatre in a major market, especially along the coasts.

I think top ticket prices for her tour next year will probably hit $150.

Would you say my John Mellencamp comparison is fair?

The last time she hit Biloxi (Casino) the top prices were like $200.00!
If I had to pay that, I'd be staying home.

I'd pay out of the nose if she came to England but I don't see it happening :(

I think a lot depends on the economy, reaction to the new album, etc. I'm not familiar with Sarah McLachlan's band--is it roughly the same size as Stevie's? Stevie has a sizable entourage that she has to provide with room, board and salary--and this band is well taken care of on the road. I remember going to one of the Phoenix benefits and the whole band was staying at the Phoenician. (no ho-jos for her band) Stevie may have said she didn't care if the new album only sells one copy (of course she's exaggerating--we all remember "the commercial gods"), but she does care about the take on the road.

In the end, quite a number of fans end up paying roughly $500/seat to a broker--or more. All the same, baby.

I really don't care how much the tickets are - she just really needs to come to Europse soI can see her solo just once! Then again, if it is only a US tour Imight just geta ticket and fly over now that I'm working full time and will have money to save and pay for it. I disagree with extortinate ticket prices and FM, Eagels etc are some of the WORST offenders but I would swallow it just to see he ronce.

I think it's fair, but I'm not sure JM has the ticket-selling power that Stevie may or may not have, I'd guess that Stevie is a bit more of a marquee/box office name than John is, but that's just a guess. I also think John may have certain regional areas where he'd be a big draw, in the midwest, perhaps. Stevie's appeal I don't think is huger in one particular area of the US than others, as much as John's might be.

I totally agree with all of the above. I think we will see her do many casino dates, for sure.

What if she tours with Mr Stewart?
would he be as into casino shows as Stevie is?

I don't think it matters, if she tours with Dave, or not, I'd think Stevie's management would call the shots and not Dave's. SN's people always have gone for dollar$, so, yeah, I think he'd be right there at any and all casino dates. It's not a stigma, anymore, in The States, to play casino dates, it's smart and big bu$ine$$.
Why, ya think Dave has some esoteric opposition to money? :)
(I don't know a lot about him, so I didn't mean that snidely. But, I think if he were to tour with Stevie, he'd be happy on stage with her anywhere she wants to play, no?)

Well, I suppose money is the defining factor, i just didn't think Dave would be all that into casino dates, but considering I'm not in the US i can't really say, over here no one really ever plays casinos they're normally reserved for musicals and stage shows. But then we don't really have the kind of massive casinos you guys have over there.
I think i'm still in that whole Diva Las Vegas state of mind, it just doesn't seem very Nicksian to me to be playing casinos, Lucrative, yes, but not very intimate, infact quite the opposite.
I would really like it if Stevie toured smaller venues, it's not like she needs the money.:sorry:

Oh, I totally agree with that comment, there's nothing to disagree with in your statement.
Australia must be so gorgeous, that's what I've always heard about it.
The 2 casinos here in Connecticut, at the concerts, you almost forget you are in a casino, the venues are so 'concert hall' like, or in the case of The Mohegan Sun Arena, it's a 10,000 seater, so it's like being at any other venue- there's no cocktail waitresses, showgirls or slots inside of the arena- give 'em time, though.
Imagine, the 'Edge Walk' with Stevie patting the tops of peoples heads instead of shaking hands at slot machines for luck! So far, though, the casino shows just are like most other concerts.

I'd hate for the tickets to be that expensive, I am really hoping she comes back to NC, hopefully Raliegh that is the closet to where I am. And I doubt I could convince my husband to be willing to pay that much!

Australia's nice, but i suppose when you live in a place you kind of get complacent about it's beauty. Don't get me wrong though it has some pretty crap places too!

That would be absolutley freaking hilarious, Casinos over here probably only seat maybe 2,000 tops so i doubt Stevie would play them if she tours here for her new album.

I suppose that it would be good too, because it's easier to get to a casino because there's always reliable transport, where as some arena's esp. over here are miles from anywhere.
