Favorite Fictional Couples

What are some of your favorite couples from literature and/or film? I was reminded of one of my favorites Guido and Dora from Life is Beautiful, in Dani's thread about inspiration.

Satine & Christian, Moulin Rouge!
Bud & Deanie, Splendor in the Grass (I have such a sentimental attachment to this and still cry every time I see it)
Henry & Claire, The Time Traveler's Wife (book, not film)
Almasy & Katharine, The English Patient (same)
Beatrice & Benedick, Much Ado About Nothing
Zhivago & Lara, Dr. Zhivago
Robie & Francie, To Catch a Thief
Emma & Mr. Knightley, Emma
Katie & Hubbell, The Way We Were :o

I'm not getting any quite off the top of my head (except for Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthring Heights, and yeah, I'm a dork for classics :p), but I gotta agree with you on Henry and Clare. Time Traveler's Wife is probably the only true romance story I actually enjoyed and, while I found certain aspects from later on (I'm not gonna spoil it, but PM me if you wanna know) a bit odd, they were a great couple.

It's definitely my favorite "love story" written in the past 10 years. I had a slight problem with the very end. But I just enjoy it so much, I choose to overlook. ;)

The very end, in some ways, did freak me out a bit, but other than that, a killer book, even though it took me months to read it (thank you, philosophy )

How have we never discussed The English Patient?! That is my favorite book in the universe.

All of my favorite fictional couples are in deeply tortured relationships.... which probably explains a lot about my own life, HA.

Stevie and Lindsey!!!

Ha :)

They made it all up, never were together at all, just thought it'd make for some good songs!

Rodolfo and Mimi: Puccini's La Bohème
Dirk Simpson and Victor Fox: Unconditional Love "I go to bed with other men, but I sleep with you"
Vada and Thomas J. - My Girl (If only!)
Beatrice & Benedick - Much Ado About Nothing
Algernon Moncrieff and Cecily Cardew - The Importance Of Being Earnest
Oberon and Titania - A Midsummer Night's Dream

Seriously, now-
1) In 'Holiday'-- Cary Grant and Kate Hepburn were an awesome couple. I don't want to walk upstairs to see if their character names are on the DVD box, but it is an awesome and perhaps obscure film, I believe from 1938 and not a blockbuster for either of them. But they have great chemistry in it, and Grant's early circus training from his real life is on display when he does a backflip and cartwheel! Lovely movie.
2) I'll agree with the thread-starter about Katie and Hubbell in 'The Way We Wuz'
ok 'Were'

3) Scarlet and Rhett! -- with a nod to Scarlet and Mammy.
4) "Now Voyager"- the Charlotte character and the doctor character, though they weren't the actual 'real couple' in the film-- Bette Davis and Claude Raines. 'Now Voyager' is one of the best films anyone with an overbearing parent can gift themselves with by watching.
I should read more, it's been decades. It's all films for me, old films.

Oh- to the reading buffs, please, what is the big deal about 'The Fountainhead'??
The love of my life insisted I read it, decades ago, he's long dead, and I never really got the significance of why he felt it was so important I 'get it'.
Anyone? I struggled through the book twice expecting enlightenment, and only found it long and depressing. I was 21 and 22 at the time. I think 'the message' was about not letting love or anything- get in the way of accomplishing your goals.
I still wonder why he thought I so 'needed' to know and understand that book, I last saw him in '90 and he died in '94. In the 80s, he had me tell him what I was thinking as I read it, but never would tell me whether I was 'right'- he thought it was brilliantly written, I know that much.
Is there any missed by me 'meaning' of 'The Fountainhead' anyone will share with me?
I know I don't want to read it again!

Do Corey and Topanga count?? lol :o

Bud & Deanie, Splendor in the Grass (I have such a sentimental attachment to this and still cry every time I see it)
wrote the thread starter., GypsySorcerer.

Oh, wow. That movie is a killer, Natalie Wood in the bathtub scene with the steaming hot water- ouch!
'Splendor' is beyond brilliant in showing how one person in a relationship may hold on to it, and the other person moves on. I think Wood and Beatty were amazingly good in it. Loved the actress who played the wife near the end of the movie, too. Great movie.

I was just thinking that as I saw the title of this thread. And it seems that movie was on half of the weekend, so you know i had to watch some of it.
