Christine joining FM...

The chances of Christine McVie joining Fleetwood Mac are so slim... :

She wouldn't let her dogs join Fleetwood Mac.

David 09-02-2010 07:25 AM

Chris McVie hates those people, & she hates their music.

She would no sooner rejoin Fleetwood Mac than start using an East End construction site outhouse for her morning ablutions.

Silver Springs 09-02-2010 07:34 AM

I wouldn't go so far as to say that she hates them. That part of her life is just over. She had the strength of character to say that she'd had enough and mean it.

Actually. Maybe the fact that she worked a little on Say You Will contradicts me some :s Either way. I don't believe at all that she hates them.

luckydimecaper 09-02-2010 07:47 AM

Nah, she doesn't hate em. As Silver Springs just said, she worked on the last album so I don't think that's the case. I think she was just so sick of that kind of life. If you look back to old interviews where she states that she was ready to give up music right before she joined FM, and to songs like 'Homeward Bound', you can see she's tired of it even then. So it's not surprising that one day she just couldn't takes it no more!

She WORKED on Say You Will? I thought her contributions were just from the Gift of Screws sessions in the 90s?

MissLadyLoki 09-02-2010 07:57 AM

Chris definitely doesn't hate them, she just wanted to move beyond to lifestyle into something more simple. Besides, you can't blame a 67 year-old woman that does't wanna tour anymore.

Yeah, she did keyboards and backing vox on Steal Your Heart Away and I think one other song but I'm not sure.

Backing vox on Bleed To Love Her and Murrow too, not sure about keyboards :wavey:

And, weren't those songs carried over to SYW from the aborted GOS sessions? Why, yes, yes they were, Steve.

I seriously doubt that once the SYW sessions were in progress, Chris had anything to do with them. Her parts were already recorded back somewhere between '96-'98.

For me it has always been like Chris accidently stumbled over fame and never adopted it, while she certainly liked the money. She never liked touring much, couldn't sleep in hotels unless she drank a bottle of wine, didn't like to be in the center of attention on stage. She ain't Tina Turner, Cher or Stevie Nicks.

She doesn't like the lifestyle so why would she continue? It's not that she needed the money or the thrill.

After her original brush with fame after "I'd Rather Go Blind" (1970), she quit the music biz. Damned Fleetwood Mac guilted her back into the biz when they needed to "fill out the sound" for the Kiln House tour. And, I surmise since that really was the only way for her to spend time with her husband, since he'd have been on the road more often than not, she went ahead & joined the band, not realizing that being in your spouse's company 24/7 would be so detrimental.

I love the thought of her having all that Me-time she's missed out on for years quietly with her dogs. She deserves it, she's worked bloody hard with people that - however much I adore them - would drive me positively insane.

I couldn't agree more. Drug related paranoia, delusions of grandeur, eccentric behaviour, she had to deal with all of it.

She didn't contribute to 'Murrow'; not, at least, according to the press pack at the time and an interview in 2004 in which she mentioned that they'd asked to use her parts on SYHA and BTLH only.

With the outbreak of bedbugs in even some of the major hotels & stores, I don't think I'd want to be on tour right now either! I'd love to see Fleetwood Mac do a video that included Christine--actually ALL of the people that have been in Fleetwood Mac. There's no sense in trying to drag all of them around. Haven't all of them hit age 60 by now?

Nope: Bekka Bramlett: April 19, 1968 (age 42)
Billy Burnett: May 8, 1953 (age 57)
