Five Stevie songs ever again

Let's say that you are on a desert island and can only listen to FIVE Stevie songs ever again. These will be the only songs of hers you will ever get to listen ever, what would they be? These can be released, demos, duets, bootlegs anything, but only five.

Mine:

1) Silver Springs (6min outtake version from deluxe "Rumours" CD)

2) Sara (10:45 min demo, this is not the "cleaning lady" version)

3) Blue Lamp

4) Smile At You ("angry" demo)

5) Beauty & The Beast ("Soundstage" version)

This one is HARD!

1. Blue Water

2. Lady From The Mountain

3. Silver Springs

4. Sorcerer

5. Sisters Of The Moon

I can think of about 15 or 20 more of my all time favorites that could be interchanged with this list...5 of anything (particularly anything I'm obsessed with) is just NOT enough.

1. Standback
2. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You
3. Red River Valley w/ Chris Isaak (makes me think of my mom)
4. Rhiannon (live version from FM live)
5. Beautiful Child

After seeing a couple people mention this one in this thread, I had to go dig it out and give it a listen (I really haven't listened to any of Stevie's demos since I discovered them a decade ago). All I can think about is how AMAZING the song would be with modern minimal production, and the soulful wisdom of Stevie's current voice.

It really is a shame so many gems slipped through Stevie's fingers over the years and never saw the light of day.

Louie you're right-- "Blue Water" would be an EXCELLENT one to pull out of the vault.

My list.... this is really freaking hard.

1) Rhiannon (Mobile 1980)
2) Forsaken Love
3) Gold Dust Woman (outtake #1) [Extended Rumours]
4) Sable On Blond
5) Outside The Rain from Red Rocks
6) Love Is (obviously)

Ugh I will probably change this list like 60 times.

1. Sleeping Angel
2. Rhiannon (Mobile, 1980) 'is that what you want'...yes *though i could use a 'louder' mix of it than what I have.
3. Smile At You (the best demo version, 'angry')
4. Edge of Seventeen (I'm thinking the 'Soundstage' version because of that final 'i Know' with a growl we never got before in the 'know')
5. Gold Dust Woman (the best, longest 'Rumours' version).

Which version of Blue Water did you listen to? The original or the mastered?

This is super difficult...

Lady From The Mountain (RAL demo)
Blue Water
Rhiannon - any live version from the RAL tour where she does her "you just might get to her" add libs.
Wild Heart
Gypsy

Totally. For the last 15 years, everytime Stevie has announced she is going to work on a new project, I always pray she'll pull this one out, put some piano and orchestration on it, and send it out to the world. It's sooooo beautiful. I love the lyric, "I wanna take you on a (pause)...slow ride..."

The version on the master tape is the same version as the original, just sounds a LOT better. More crisp with no flaws. LOVE IT!

1. Gypsy (Mirage or The Dance version)
2. Rhiannon (Live)
3. Beautiful Child (Tusk or Soundstage)
4. Edge of Seventeen (Soundstage)
5. Silver Springs (The Dance)

jannieC 08-19-2010 10:46 AM

1. Edge of 17 (WWD live)
2. Beauty and the Beast (RAL live)
3. Gold Dust Woman (I'm not sure what to call the demo I am thinking of, but it's really cool- she does an "ooooh" thing that is so pretty).
4. Rhiannon (any good old live version will do)
5. Kind of Woman

BigLee770 08-19-2010 11:47 AM

Mine are:

1- Bella Donna (album version) - a masterpiece as it stands!

2- Gold Dust Woman (Live version from The Dance) - love the hold on the "go hoooommmeeee" part as opposed to now when she just repeats "home" when she performs it!

3- Silver Spring (The Dance) - live performance perfection! The build up of "follow you down to the sound... to the "never get away" part and then the breathlessness of the final lyrics "you could be my, silver spring, my, blue-green, colours flashing"

4- Sister of the Moon (live from Mirage - "the famous speaking in tongues version as it is sometimes reffered to) - love the intesity of how she spits out lyrics like (black robes trailing" and obviously the main, now infamous wails!

Now is where im really stuck between about another 10 songs - should i go for a rock n roll song like edge or rhiannon or something more softer like Beautiful Child etc...??

5- Storms - (album version) i loved hearing this song live during unleashed but the tusk album version is best because it is more softer and displays the yearning almost of the lyrics such as "every night you do not come..." and "not all the friends in the world could save us"!

chiliD 08-19-2010 11:53 AM

1) Rhiannon - from the Albatross, But Not Around My Neck bootleg

2) Rhiannon - original album version

3) Sisters Of The Moon - Tusk album version

4) Silver Springs - The Dance version

5) Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind - Street Angel
