Please help me out with book!

OK, so I was in the library today, trying to look The Dirt, a book about Motley Crue (yes, I do enjoy them and metal in general) that I heard was pretty funny. When I got to the spot in the shelves where it should be, it wasn't there, but I continued to browse the music bios anyway. As I was looking, I came across a book on the making of Rumours called Never Break the Chain from some series of classic album books. Does anyone know if this one is any good? And are there any other good Mac-related books out there (yeah, I know I should limit my paper books since my Kindle coming soon, but these bios are meant to be read in paper form)?

I just recently bought the book, and so far it's been a great read. Weather or not you'll learn anything new I don't know, but it's still worth checking out, particularly if you don't have to pay for it.

Unfortunately, the only Mac book my library has is the one by Carol Ann Harris. Then again, maybe it's fortunate. I won't have to pay for it.

I think I shall read that book. I just hope they don't use too many technical terms.

As for The Dirt, I do recall reading bits of how Tommy Lee got arrested in Japan for hiding pot in his drumkit and how Nikki Sixx was convinced that guys with curly hair couldn't rock out, so I bet it's gonna be hilarious.

In the meantime, does anyone know of any other good Mac reads?

Storms is a good read as long as you take everything with a pinch of salt. If you sit thinking "Yeah, right..." you'll snigger all the way through it. Rumours and Lies is okay. The grammar, or lack of, annoyed me no end though.

I had read Storm and, even though I read it as a work of fiction, I thought it was hilarious. The AMAs (even though the actual footage shows something totally different) was my favorite part and, funny as it may sound, I felt her tension when she was running through the streets of DC barefoot.

And what was so bad about Rumours and Lies? And is that Bob Brunning book and Mick's book any good?

ButterCookie 07-14-2010 07:53 AM

Rumours and Lies is Bob Brunning's book. It was informative just very poorly written. I'd not hand something like that in for homework :/

OK, so I know to avoid it, but what about Mick's book? I heard it wasn't exactly very truthful too.

I was going to mention Storms, since you're getting a Kindle - I have it on my Kindle - but you've already read it, so that's out.

Mick's book is pretty entertaining, though.

I was thinking about it, but after I heard it's another CAH situation (read it as a work of fiction), I decided against it.

BTW, if you read a book on the Kindle that has photos, do they still come up?

Zombie 07-14-2010 05:39 PM

^^^^

Yar, they do. I have a first gen Kindle, and while I absolutely LOVE it, I will allow that the pic quality is not really great, but they do display. I'm assuming you're getting one of the newer ones, though - I think they've upped the pic quality, but I can't say for sure, because I haven't seen one in person yet.

ETA: They're in black & white, too. Again, not for certain about the newer ones, but on mine, even something that might otherwise be a color photo will be black and white.

Most of these books have pics in black and white, so it should be fine on the Kindle.

Back on topic, does anyone know of any vintage Mac book from like back in the day?

A great book to seek out is 'The Authorized History of Fleetwood Mac' by Samuel Graham. Published in 1978, it's an approximately 12 x 8 paperback with lots of great black and white photos. It's a very informative 104 page book about the band up to that point. As a relatively new fan of the band back then, I loved the book. I still do. My original book was pretty beat up. I was lucky to obtain a pristine one several years ago at a local book store.

The Authotized History: Fleetwood Mac by Samuel Graham was published by Warner Brothers in 1978 and it's a good book, lots of stuff on the early Mac. It's very picture-orientated, but the pics are great, some of em are pretty rare.
Headliners: Fleetwood Mac by Charles Walters is a pocket published in 1979, very informative.
Fleetwood Mac: Rumours n' Fax by Roy Carr and Steve Clarke is also from 1978 and also has lots of pics and lots of background info.
All these books are worth it to look out for on Ebay!

MissLadyLoki 07-15-2010 07:15 AM

I'll admit that I don't like using Ebay at all, but maybe i could find 'em somewhere.

OK, so I made my decision. Today I'll be taking that Never Break the Chain book out rom the library, and then stop over at Borders to pick up The Dirt (I realized that it was too funny not to buy). I'll tell you my thoughts on both after I read 'em.
