Hello everyone - I was just watching the Practical Magic video of Crystal on Youtube and wondered if there were any demos or alt of this out there? Any input would be great! Thanks peeps:)
|
Well...I guess you could consider the FM and BN versions as alts.

Top 10 Film Soundtracks To Make You Feel Awesome. (Inspired by GoTG's Awesome Mix Vol. 1) http://moviepilot.com/posts/2015/07/...xternal,manual 7. Practical Magic This film was the first film I got on DVD (as well as having it on VHS). My best friend and I used to play this when it was Halloween and we were dressed up as witches. 'Crystal' by Stevie Nicks still makes me feel like I have magical powers. (But she does that anytime she sings!) Need a sing-a-long? There's 'This Kiss' by Faith Hill. Need a dance? There's 'Got To Give It Up' by Marvin Gaye. But it's this amazing scene with 'Coconut' by Harry Nilsson, that puts this film's soundtrack in my Top 10! "Put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up!" |
Her vocal on this song is horrible! I understand this was rushed but it should of never been put on an album with that awful vocal.
|
Was it rushed? I assumed that both her songs were tracks Sheryl Crow produced to go with TISL. They are all songs that fit in with the others she produced at same time for TISL. They go well with those tracks like candlebright , sorcerer etc.

I have no preference - I like all three in their various interpretations . |
In stark contrast to the above, I adore Stevie's solo version of Crystal and think it's one of her best post-Dance vocal performances. I never listen to the F'Mac or Buckingham Nicks versions of Crystal.
|
You're not the only one, I also love Stevie's version also because Practical Magic was one of my favourite movies when I was a child and recognizing the soundtrack when I bacame a FM fan was a pleasant surprise.
|
Crystal and If You Ever Did Believe were the songs that made me go from casual fan to seeking out more of Stevie's material  I like all 3 versions of Crystal but Stevie's is always my favorite.

The Hammond B3 on the fadeout presses my emotion button.
In a different way, so does the Moog on the fadeout of the Fleetwood Mac version. |
Oh wow I can't believe how many people think that Stevie's version of Crystal is so bad. I personally think it's incredible and I would LOVE if someone could do a mash-up of her version with the original BN version. Actually I think that would make my year to hear that! There just isn't enough harmony on the BN version and a mash-up would be like harmonial heaven.
Personally I think everything Stevie does sounds amazing... Even when the logical side of my brain knows it just doesn't... The emotional side of my brain says "my gosh this is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard!" lol And it just occurred to me... I've never ::gasp:: heard the FM version of Crystal. What in the actual eff?! Where can I find it??? |
Crystal is a song that I don't like very much, none of the well-known versions. The first version I heard is the 1975, and I thought Stevie could have done better, although compared to Landslide it wouldn't stand a chance. Perhaps that's why they decided to have Lindsey sing it, to avoid comparisons, I don't know.
But when I heard the Practical Magic version I was disappointed. I though... Too late, with that voice it couldn't be a good performance. So my question is... Is there any demo or early version sung by Stevie from 1973 to 1975? I have not find any, and I hope that would be a nice version. |
Beautiful song ruined by Stevie's horribly leaden vocal with Sheryl Crow.
