Blue Lamp Recording

According to an article from March 22nd, 1979, which leaked Stevie's solo career, mentioned that she was working on a soundtrack (Heavy Metal). It said that Stevie would be recording the track this year (1979). This predates Bella Donna's recording .
I wonder if Stevie's solo band worked on it?

Heavy Metal is not mentioned in this article. Nor is "Blue Lamp".

The soundtrack alluded to was for Rhiannon, which Stevie was to provide the music for and star in. this project fell through, of course, and Stevie then began recording for a regular album.

"Blue Lamp" was not written until 1980 and demoed several times then. It was recorded for Bella Donna in Early 1981, and given over to the Heavy Metal soundtrack when the final track listing for Bella Donna was being settled on, and Atlantic wanted a track of Stevie's for the soundtrack.

She should have searched for her worst song and given them "Mabel Normand". That movie was utter crap. "Blue Lamp" was too good to waste on it. They just inserted it in some random scene where it plays for barely any length of time, and it doesn't advance the story in any way. Actually, "Mabel Normand" was too go0d for that movie. That movie was so cheap and stupid, she should have given them "I need a joint, at least a little bit of a joint"

Pretty much all of the movies her songs appear in are just barely there (this is true of most movies that use mainstream music). The only movie where Stevie's song is actually used to advance anything is "School Of Rock" (and it's a great scene!!).

I thought they used quite a bit of V&B in Against All Odds, but it's been a while since I've seen it.

I disagree! I think HM was a great (cult) film if you take it at face value- the adult animation genre. It was very much the direct descendent of Ralph Bakshi's groundbreaking films like "Heavy Traffic" and "Fritz the Cat," which I consider to be among the greatest, most creative achievements in animation, evah! Indeed, BL was merely background music in one particular scene with the NY-cabbie-from-the-future. But that's how 99% of music is used in movies. I think what is more outrageous/ironic is that the term "heavy metal" was cooped by a non-metal rocker like Sammy Hagar for a non-metal song called "Heavy Metal." But I must admit I really loved Don Felder's "(Take a Ride on) Heavy Metal."

A friend and I went to see the Heavy Metal movie just because we knew Blue Lamp was in it. He liked the movie and I thought it sucked.

Another movie with a Stevie song was a cult fave for a long time, Fast Times At Ridgemont High. But in the movie the song was ruined because it was played during the scene where the girl goes to have an abortion.

I found the placement of the song during that scene to be poignant, if not a bit cliché.

I LOVE the school of rock scene. One of my favorite movies is Practical Magic, and they do use Crystal well. its instrumentation is used in the beginning when sandra bullocks character is a little girl casting a spell for love, and later in the movie, when the guy comes to her, they play the actual song. its beautiful.
