Prettiest Girl in the World demo

Hi,
Does anyone have any info about this demo? Who wrote it andwhen? And, what album was it intended for?

I know I'm picking on you a lot, but Mike Bise can you help us out on this one...again!???

Thanks much!!!!

Stevie wrote it. I love this one. It's from RAL recordings.

All of the above is correct.

Stevie even talked about the song in a 2007 interview!

What did she say?

Something about not "literally being the prettiest girl in the world", but how people treat you when you're famous. The interviewer asked Stevie something, and she responded by talking about that song.

I have the interview archived somewhere... can't find it...

Was it that incredible UK interview where Stevie talked about giving Glenn Parrish her meds and then told the doctor who said she could have killed Glenn, so Stevie got pissed at the doctor, saying "You could have ****ing killed ME!"

I think it was a 2007 Crystal Visions interview.

Does she see beauty when she looks in the mirror? 'Sometimes I still think that I'm looking OK. And other times I look at myself and I go, "Oh, my God, you're so old." '

She pulls a face and laughs. 'I wrote a song once called The Prettiest Girl in the World, and that was a long time ago. But when you've been the prettiest girl in the world - and I don't mean the most beautiful girl; I just mean a really pretty girl, a really talented girl, a girl who writes really good songs. When you've been all that and you're a lot older, it is hard. You see the lines' - Nicks runs her fingers along the thickening curve of her jaw - 'and you start to see this happening; and even though I'm thinner than I was a long time ago, you see your body changing and you go, well maybe this is not age-appropriate and I shouldn't wear the chiffon scarf any more; and then you go, but if I'm going to change the whole thing it's not me any more.' She shakes the thought to one side. 'I'm just terribly excited to get into my rock'n'roll penthouse and out of here. I feel old here.'

anyone have a good copy?

Has a good copy of PRETTIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD ever surfaced? I have only heard the version on the "Demos & Outtakes" CDs that Anne Strikwerda used to sell many years ago overseas. It always sounded like it was offkey. I can't tell if it is slightly too fast or not. Most cassette players were all slightly different speeds. And when people dubbed these demos from a tape recorded on one player to another player - there were lots of variances.

One of which is ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WORLDS, which is probably my favorite unreleased song. The versions I've heard online and on the "Demos & Outtakes" CDs were slightly lower and slower than the Master Sessions version that finally surfaced online. BUT, I feel the Masters Sessions MAY have been transferred from a cassette itself and NOT master tapes like many other songs have been. There's some tape hiss/noise on there that is not on other Masters I've heard like DIAL THE NUMBER. Because of this, the older less quality ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD's may have been the correct pitch and speed. I actually lowered the Masters version to the pitch and speed of the version I've listened to for years and I swear it sounds more RIGHT than leaving it unchanged. Anyone else ever notice this? Guess I need to post this on the ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WORLDS thread too.

Thanks Mike, that was an interesting article that you posted [ Telegraph one] just wondering if you or someone else has the Prettiest girl in the world demo in MP3, I would love to hear it.. Thanks again for your other fantastic Demo's you have shared:wavey: just thought of another one does anyone have B/N Planets of the universe or earlier than TISL.

Do you have the RUMOURS reissue with the outtakes? There's a nice RUMOURS outtake of "Planets of the Universe" on there. I've also heard a piano demo of the song, which is on a "Demos and Outtakes" CD I have. It's not that great quality, hopefully someone here has it in better quality and will post it for us.

PS - I hope you have the PLANETS OF THE UNIVERSE CD single that has the complete song on it - called "extended album version". PHENOMENAL!!! I don't know why Stevie allowed them to edit it for TROUBLE IN SHANGRI-LA!!! Criminal.

another key difference!

Thanks for the post Maria - here's ANOTHER song which is in a different key than I've heard before. [I've been discussing the differences in all these old cassette demos over on the ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WORLDS thread] I have it in a higher/faster key/tempo without as much tape hiss - but not a whole lot better quality. I've never been happy with the key of the one I have - I've always thought it might be a little higher than it should be. This one sounds great vocally, but I'm so used to the song being faster it's hard to adjust. This may be the correct key!

Thanks MariaA37, Im listening now :) wondering when this demo was recorded???

Aussie W/Heart 03-16-2010 10:47 PM

Grinnygog, thanks for that!!! I will have another look through the demo/outtake thread..

I thought it was recorded for The Other Side Of The Mirror.
