I completely agree. Once it got to season 4 or 5 (whichever one it was where J. R. Ewing and the organ thief were on), the show took a dive. I kept watching, though, year after year thinking it would eventually redeem itself and get back on track. But no.
I was so disappointed with the finale. The two of them dissolving the partnership was the most obvious way to end the show, so I thought (er, hoped) they would do something else, throw some kind of bizarre twist that you didn't see coming, like they did in the first few seasons. I actually thought Matt was finally going to realize what a loser he actually is and shoot himself while everyone else was enjoying dinner together. That's the kind of ending the writing from a few years ago would have taken. I mean, I've watched these characters for, what, 8 seasons? And it's not like I ever became attached to them so much that I would be distraught about them splitting up. I could care less. The only slightly interesting thing was the very end with Christian at the bar when they took it back to season 1. Otherwise, fail.
Oh well, at least I've got the first three seasons on DVD to watch to remind me of how good it once was.
