sales for Stevie's solo albums

Anyone know how many copies of each solo album Stevie has sold so far?

I always hear different things. For example, in the 'Enchanted' liner notes,
Danny Goldberg says 'Bella Donna' has sold 8 million. Isn't 3 or 4 million
a more accurate number to be honest?

I believe BD is "officially" 5x platinum in the U.S. alone, so worldwide the figure may be upwards of 8 million.

I think we discussed this in the past, and got a really thorough answer. Let me see if I can find it here!

Riaa Sales

per RIAA.com Stevie has sold a total of 10.5 million solo records combined

Broken down they are:
Bella Donna - 4,000,000
Wild Heart - 2,000,000
Rock a little - 1,000,000
TOSOTM - 1,000,000
Timespace - 1,000,000
Street Angel -500,000
Enchanted - 500,000
Trouble in Shangralai - 500,000

Her Red Rocks video is certified gold on there as well (500,000) and as stated before this is just US totals - I know that in Canada their certification amounts are different - Gold is 50,000 and platinum is 100,000

I wish I could find her world wide totals as well... OH and obviously this does not include soundtracks

Macfanforever 02-22-2010 09:47 PM

Ooch,Wow I dont beleave these did not sell.yes Street Angel was a sleeper.
Street Angel-500,000
Enchanted - 500,000
Trouble in Shangralai - 500,000

I wonder the internet had to do with these low sales. Now I can understand why Stevie was psssst off about the internet freeloaders.

AliceLover 02-22-2010 10:14 PM

Theres no way Enchanted sold 500,000.....

Musicman408 02-22-2010 10:17 PM

Yeah, and I'm thinking TISL sold around 650,000

Video's (Red Rocks) certified gold in the US is 50,000. And Enchanted because the package contains 3 discs - each disc is counted separate - so in reality for it to go gold, it would only need to sell about 165,000 copies.

Also, don't forget that being certified doesn't actually mean you've sold that much, it basically means that much has been distributed for sale. What you really need to track down are actual soundscan sales, which is the tracking of the over the counter sales (1991 to present).

Enchanted sold around 183,000. But there are 3 disks in the box set, so 183.000 times 3 makes it past 500,000. That is how they count box sets.

The TISL cd sales were more than 700,000 at last count, which was around the time of 'Say You Will' in '03. The totals were very close, with 'Say You Will' selling a bit more, but not much, than TISL.

I think it is very hard to get an accurate sales count for releases before soundscan 1991, also remember that RIAA certifications are not updated until Stevie's record co. and/or management submit a request for a new RIAA certification of sales. Case in point, after "The Dance" became a huge success and sold several million copies, and strategically right before the release of "Enchanted", Stevie had several new RIAA certifications in 1998, including "Timespace" & TOSOTM achieved platinum status, "Street Angel" was finally certified gold , and Bella Donna was certified Platinum 4X.

That said, I believe actual sales of BD in the US alone are now @5M and worldwide @ 8M.
The other figures on her releases seem accurate at last count, cept for TISL which was last certified by RIAA of sales over 650,K while SYW was over 750K.
(But keep in mind the RIAA rounds down, i.e. TISL has sold well over 500k making it easily GOLD, but when and if it sells say 1.3M, the RIAA will list it as Platinum with sales of 1M.)
And yes, I believe that TISL would have easily gone platinum if it has been released in 1999 before Napster and file sharing REALLY exploded. SYW also would have gone platinum if it were not for file sharing. It's no mystery why Stevie is cynical of technology.

Stevie and FM also missed a huge window of opportunity by not releasing both of these recordings at lease 2 years earlier then their respective 2001 & 2003 release dates, capitalizing on The Dance's incredible success. Stevie could have still released her box set in the spring of 98' then small summer tour, and if she had the discipline, could have finished recording TISL in the fall 98'/Spring99' and released TISL early summer of 99' with greater success. But those of us who are long time fans are now nauseatingly accustomed to delays and pushed back released dates for a long long time now.

I agree. For the last 26 years this holds true.

Yes, rounds up and down, making it kind of worthless as an accurate gauge of popularity.

Timespace has actually sold 1.5 million, whereas Street Angel has only sold about 230,000.

I don't know about rounding up? But they certainly don't have accurate numbers.
Like mentioned before and correctly a album could be certified Platinum, but that
could mean anything from 1 million units sold to 1 million 999,999 units sold.
And even though Soundscan numbers are more accurate than the RIAA
numbers, they themselves are incomplete. And the longer the artist have been
around the more likely the RIAA numbers are off. Very much so in the case of
Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. For example none of Elvis' material
from prior to 1958 was counted by the RIAA (sales for the record titles from that
period were only counted for what they sold begining in 1958). Plus it was a singles
oriented market up until the mid to late 1960's. So records like Heartbreak Hotel,
Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender and Jailhouse Rock were shortchanged
by the RIAA and of course doesn't count in the Album sales total.

So the RIAA isn't fair or accurate for many artist. And unless the Record Companies
submit totals and push for certifications many artist never receive gold and
platinum album awards. The RIAA amounts to little more than publicity for an
artist and their record label.

Hey everyone - does anyone have any links to record sales tracking site other than RIAA - RIAA just gives certifications (ie gold, platinum, plat x NTH)

I would like to see how many albums Stevie has sold on her own as well
