Sheryl Crow heads to 'Cougar Town'

Exclusive: Sheryl Crow heads to 'Cougar Town'

Sheryl Crow is taking a rare detour into acting with a major recurring role on Cougar Town.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the Grammy winning singer-songwriter is set to appear in multiple episodes of the freshman ABC comedy as Grayson’s (Josh Hopkins) new girlfriend.

No further information was available about her character, although I’m told the 47-year-old will not be playing herself.

Crow, who will debut on CT in March, pretty much gave up acting after starring in the 1999 big-screen disappointment The Minus Man. Most recently, she played herself in last May’s charity-single-spoofing episode of 30 Rock.

Thoughts?

The show's pretty funny, IMO. I think Sheryl could be good in theory, but can she act at all? I mean, apparently not according to the article. She must be OK - I find it hard to believe thay couldn't find ANY other "cougar" age actresses to play the part on the show.

Well... you could ask the same of Courtney Cox, who became famous merely for dancing with Bruce Springsteen in a video. And she's not exactly keeping Meryl Streep up at night either. Since you can pretty much stick a fork in Sheryl's music career, it's good that she is diversifying. Admittedly, when I think of a cougar, Sheryl does not come to mind. I tend to think of someone who looks ridiculous in age-inappropriate attire and appears peeled, plumped and pulled back in an effort to give off the illusion of youth, e.g., pretty much all of the O.C. Housewives. Sheryl looks way too natural and effortless to be a cougar!

I'm not saying that CC is an Oscar worthy actress, but she does have 10 years TV sitcom experience behind her. Sheryl does not. I'm interested to see how she does in any event.

I think Sheryl is doing this because she, Courtney, and Jennifer Aniston are all really good friends. The idea of Sheryl having a recurring role probably just came about from sitting around talking. I've never seen CT so I don't know if its good or not...I guess only time will tell if Sheryl will be able to do it. I wonder if these means Stevie will be watching. :p

Good for her

Sheryl Crow is great - as a rock star she has done it all. I hope that she is doing this because it is fun to do. Period. And I'm sure she'll do just fine. Is she a cougar - young men should be so lucky.....
