Street Angel Tour - Jones Beach, NY '94

Great show from the second night of the Street Angel Tour. Stevie really was on fire on this tour IMO. I just love to watch her move on this tour because although she's at her heaviest she sure does not move like a big person...in fact I don't think Stevie ever moved around better in those platforms! Check out HSML and GDW where she dances across the front of the stage. We also get a couple nice high kicks...one at the end of Stand Back and another at the end of Talk To Me. (Stevie does a "flamingo" pose where she's standing on one leg and a then she does a little karate kick!

No Spoken Word and How Still My Love were not performed often on this tour although NSW is cut on this recording. Very strange seeing her open with Blue Denim...does anyone know how long it stayed at the beginning of the show before she moved it to the end of the set? Edge was well over the 10 min mark (Youtube limit per video) so I had to split it in two.

Enjoy folks!

She's got an almost RAL type vocal on this HSML. At the 01:47 part we hear a nice bellow, and then at 02:47 a good "you go your way!" and also the 02:54 "get OUT!!".

I say 'almost', because during RAL Stevie's barks and bellows seemed to come from some strange, unscripted, uninhibited place, where these SA barks (while good) seems more rehearsed. But still, it shows a passion for her singing which I haven't really heard since.

I don't think I'm the only one who likes the crimped SA hair, right? And wouldn't the outfits she wore on this tour be more flattering to her today than what she wears now? They certainly look comfy...

"Maybe Love Will Change..." is a jaunty little pop song and she sings it well, and with spirit, on this video. Let the pillaging begin.

First I would like to thank you once again for posting your videos. Very nice of you to do that. Second I totally agree with you about Stevie, I was at this Jones Beach show, it rocked, it was sweltering hot and humid but it rocked, and I also had the opportunity to see Stevie again on the SA tour in Holmdel, NJ, and both times I thought she was energetic, she was dancing, interacting with the auidence, singing great, and her over all attitude was up, and happy. She smiled alot and was not serious. She had just kicked Klonopin, and in interviews before this tour she claimed to have quit smoking, So I think this was the first time in a long time that she felt this good, or sang this good and with heart felt emotion. What sucked was that the critics had a field day about her weight gain and stupid other things, and I think that by the end of the tour she lost alot of her confidence, self esteem and pride and she couldn't wait to put the tour behind her.

Also would like to add that I too love the crimped hair, but on this night it was frizzed out from the humidity, as well as mine, Ha Ha. HSMY rocked with some bellows, as you said. Loved when she forgot a whole verse of Rhiannon, and also loved " Yo's". Stevie Rocks. Dare I go to far and say that this was kind of the last time that we saw Stevie as exuberant on a solo tour?

Why do the backup singers look like they just arrived from a Partridge Family reunion?

Ha Ha. Now that you say it, I want to say that Stevie toured on a bus for SA for the first time, so maybe it was a mandatory requirement or some retro vibe to channel Lori Partridge for positive energy or something. Or they could have used the old Partridge Family Bus and just felt like dressing the part.

this is a fantastic show. I do love GDW on this tour, especially the dancing at the end. She hasn't done dancing like this since.:distress:

Crimped hair is underrated!

I think she looks pretty good here. I've heard that either fans or Stevie said she was the heaviest during Street Angel, but I don't recall this. The videos of Street Angel and when I went to the tour she looked pretty good, I thought she was the biggest during 89/90, especially during the second leg of Behind The Mask.

OMG...look alive Stevie!!!

petep9000 02-05-2010 06:53 PM

Agreed. She definately looked heavier, more zonked, more listless, more uncomfortable, etc.
Does anyone remember that self-published paperback book called 'Lady of The Stars' written about Stevie by some kook? There was a photo section where he had some RAL stage shots and then he compares them to some Timespace or Behind The Mask stage shots, and says the latter photos showed how well Stevie pulled herself out of a bad condition. I remember thinking "what? She looked better when she was a hot mess!"

badanimals87 02-05-2010 07:51 PM

Plus as someone else mentioned...the dress Stevie wore on the Street Angel Tour was VERY flattering for her figure. The corset looking things she wore around '90 made her look like a stuffed sausage.

nicksphan 02-06-2010 08:51 AM

Thank you so much for posting this...brings back memories. I remember the concert review in Newsday came down on her for saying "I don't know how you live here," when she was talking about the heat and humidity before HSML.
