Answering Stevie's Questions

Stevie asks us, the listeners, a lot of questions in her songs. The Nicksfix used to have a place where Stevie answered our questions. But we've never answered hers! Maybe this is why she felt the need to answer questions with 1 - 5 words each. We weren't giving her anything in return.

So here's how the game works. I'll ask one of Stevie's questions from a song, and then you answer it with whatever kind of answer you want. A Stevieish answer would be nice, but whatever works. Then after you answer, ask your own question that Stevie has pondered in her amazing lyrics. If we start to run out of things feel free to use another macster in your question/response.

I'll start!

Who is the beauty? Who is the beast?

PenguinHead 01-21-2010 09:16 PM

Of course I am the beauty, and Mick is the beast.

Can the child in my heart rise above?

"I don't know. I mean, fabulous men have said I'm beautiful, even the beastly ones. But they can't deal with my life, you know? It just bums them out. And I've never really found the answer to that question... One of these days, I'm just going to write it all down in a book. The good parts...and the bad. It will make 'The Story of O' look like 'The Pokey Little Puppy'. Are you going to eat that?"

"You cannot look upon the beast... completely.. unless you look upon the beast with love, 'cause then it bums him out and then it kills him"

 Sorry, just reminded me.

Where are the children? Are they hopelessly enchanted?

"Well, um, like sometimes I'm the beauty and sometimes Lindsey is the beast or Mick is the beast or maybe Joe or Don... or it could just be like whoever I am thinking about at the time. I mean the beauty and the beast is in everybody. It's like so universal, ya know?"

"The beauty is not only my inner beauty, but the beauty of all the universe...floating in on a majestic cloud of chiffon and lace...like a gypsy! Yeah, that's it!

"Well, they certainly aren't at my house. I may never have children. And I'm ok with that, I didn't come here to be a mom."

Now, my turn.

Why does the greatest love cause the greatest pain?

"Well, it just does. You know? And if it didn't, there wouldn't be songs to write. I mean, an artist can't be too happy. Like when my best friend Robin died, it was very sad for me. In fact, I didn't even get to enjoy Bella Donna. I was making pretend I was happy when I was dancing to Gold and Braid. But I wasn't."

My turn:

What has rock and roll ever done for you?

"Well, it gave me power over my millions of fans and now I'm the most loved woman in rock."

So "To whom do you cry when people are unkind?"

I call Don Henley or Tom Petty or my mother in Phoenix. They always know the right words to say to make me happy.

My question: I remember a man when he said to me. He said what do you do?

"And I said I am the nightbird. You know, the one that sings at night. I am the bird of Rhiannon; I sing to take away all the pain in the world. I feel it... from the audience. They give me their pain, and it's such a precious gift, more precious than any stuffed Snoopy or unicorn."

Baby, how much closer can we be?

A- "Well, no one can be as close to me as I am to Tom. You know, I mean...his word is law. And when he walks into the room, they literally are on fire. And you can't think abut anything else. Not about Fleetwood Mac or my solo career, or my dog or my houses...or anything. I mean, he's played with Dylan. You don't get bigger than that. He made me an honorary Heartbreaker, it was extraordinary..."
