New Years Resolutions

Since the new year is approaching, I thought it would be a nice idea for all of us to share some potential resolutions. THEN, as the new year rolls in, we can try to keep each other in line! ;)

For me, I am thinking about curbing my profanity. Most of the time I use it for comedic purposes, but it may not be a bad idea.....

I may also try spending more time with a variety of different people, but I'll have to think that one through. You know- expanding my horizons and trying NOT to slip into habit!!

Profanity's not an issue. Just ask Penn & Teller.
I guess the best resolution I can come up with for myself is not to wait for the New Year before employing my resolutions!
A second one that could count is that I'll resolve to learn how to properly use a Linux command line interface...
Of course, resolutions are usually more about improving one's commitment to work or study, or maybe increasing charitable tendencies... but I think I'm already improving on both... I think...

Which one would be harder to pull off?

#1: my piano has been sitting dormant for months now and its only because i have been really busy and im actually really good..
(got 3rd place in my first recital after only playing for 4 months =] ).
i have a whole list of songs i would love to learn how to play

#2: find out where the hell that missing page in my song book went =[
:sorry:

#3: do more community service..for some reason i stopped doing it. 2 yrs ago before i left michigan for virginia my sister in i were in this community service program called summer in the city.. we painted the side of this building (i think we painted the sun and made the beams on the ground with bottle caps..kinda cool) that my sister and i would see everytime we were heading over to my grandma's house..

#4: try to cut down on sarcasm.. (i already know this is never gonna happen...ill scratch this off my list lol)

i always hate when ppl..mostly friends say "new year, new me"...it never happens. EVER!!

Weighty goal, but I have faith in you. :)

For me, this thread holds a lot heavier connotations than I really care to admit-- partly because I'm way too into the idea of rebirth, partly because the past six months have been a whirlwind for me and its time for it to settle. So the general goal is to get my life organized in 2010, but this is a pretty daunting task separated into many different categories. I need to get my ass into gear and actually start writing more-- and start writing well, for the first time in a long long time. I need to completely detach myself from any and all romantic entanglements/alcohol/drugs/etc-- not out of some newfound moral awakening, but because its all just more crap I have to worry about! And finally, I need to learn the art of balance-- within myself, my relationships with others, my aspirations. It'll be an interesting year, that's for sure.

God, you and me both. My resolution was going to be to give up alcohol in 2010, but we both know that won't happen. I think the new goal is just going to be to step back and breathe.

I refuse to believe you're remotely surprised that we are yet again the same person.

Maybe the resolution should be to stop pretending, then  :xoxo:

No, I've actually come up with a real one, and I want to log it with the ledge as a way of holding myself accountable. I want to try to teach myself piano in 2010, and, if I can, start saving up for money for actual lessons at some point. We have a piano at my mom's fiance's house, so I've been doing a lot of work on just scales and note recognition and figuring out how the basics of everything works. I know it sounds like kid stuff, but I don't just want to memorize a few songs to pull out at parties, I want to understand the instrument. As a late Christmas present, my mom is shipping a keyboard to me at school, so I won't have to give up my goal when I get back to Boston. I think I'm going to consider it a success when I can sit down with the sheet music to Joni Mitchell's The Last Time I Saw Richard and play it without anyone's help.

Danielle, I wish you all the best sweetie. Can't wait for you to start writing again! If you ever need to talk about things, you know where to find me!
