Once again no Stevie!!!!!!!!

Once again Stevie is passed up for induction into the RNR Hall of Fame  She belongs in there solo!! Im glad she is in there with FM but she should be in there on her own merits also.

tilthefirefades 12-16-2009 09:04 AM

I don't understand why she isn't already. It seems like over half of the inductees aren't even as deserving as Stevie.

This topic gets brought up every time the nominations are announced (usually during the summer, then again when the list is finalized this time of year). Stevie is already in there as part of Fleetwood Mac. Stevie as a solo artist has not had the same impact as Fleetwood Mac has. Whatever impact she has had on the industry as well as her own solo career is because of what she did with Fleetwood Mac. To this day there are many people who don't know that songs like "Edge Of Seventeen" or "Stand Back" are not Mac songs. The line between the two is blurred in the mind of the general public. As die hard fans it seems unbelievable that people can't tell the difference between Stevie's solo songs and her Mac work, but that is the reality. Also when you ask someone on the street who Stevie Nicks is, they will most likely say "that girl from Fleetwood Mac" (if they don't say shrug and say they have never heard of him).
Stevie will not be going into the Hall as a solo artist any time in the near future. I say this every year and every year people get VERY upset. But the fact is as far as the Hall is concerned, she's already in there so there's no rush. People like Heart or Pat Benatar will and should go in before Stevie goes in solo.

I personally don't care because I lost all respect for the RRHOF with the Madonna induction. It's no longer the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of fame, it's tainted now; it's the B-BOP Hall Of Fame, so I'm just as happy to not have any rock artist I like associated with it.

good point. especially with ABBA being inducted.

I agree that the likes of Madonna and ABBA should have only even been thought of as going in once ALL rock artists had made it in and there was no one left. ABBA going in before Heart or Judas Priest or Iron Maiden or The Moody Blues etc is a mystery to me.

holidayroad 12-16-2009 01:20 PM

I'm glad to see Genesis finally get in, but does this include Peter Gabriel?

ABBA certainly left their mark in music. Sure not all of it is hard rock, but they had some rock songs.

Take a good long look at the inductee list:

There are lots of very mellow artists in there....oh like Brenda Lee, Joni Mitchell, Dusty Springfield, Etta James and Bob Marley to name a few. I would never call them rock n' roller's, but hey...they are there.

Best post I've ever seen on the subject. I'll go one step further and say that Stevie will never be admitted into the Rock Hall as a solo artist. She just didn't have big enough of an impact. Like you said, Stevie's rock impact was a collective role within Fleetwood Mac, and her much smaller solo success was a side note... and only served to bolster her total impact.

My point wasn't about mellow music, which to me is still rock 'n roll; it was about dance music, and Madonna in particular, which to me is not rock 'n roll, but is dance music.

Yes, I know it's not about mellow music. But many inductees are not true rock n' roll. That is the point. I love me some Bob Marley reggae, but reggae is not rock n' roll.

The point is, it's not about rock n' roll, but about popular music.

GoldDustBoy 12-16-2009 09:14 PM

It shouldn't be about popularity. It should be about QUALITY, and as big as Madonna is, her music lacks quality. Madonnas success is based on visual effects, and controversial behavior, not music. Putting her in the same place with Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan etc is simply RIDICULOUS.

Although I was born the year that ABBA disbanded, somehow I think they enjoy much higher status now, than in their hay day. I've seen footage of their concerts, and most of their audiences were 12-15. I do think that their music is eons away from the sh*t we have today, but they can't be compared to 95% of the musicians in the RRHOF, and I don't care if they still sell gazzilion albums a year.

I do think that Stevie should be inducted, but then again I also think she should be proclaimed a Goddess, and worshiped by every living thing in the universe. :] I just can't be objective when it comes to her, so I will just say that I really hope her talent as a solo artist soon gets recognized by the RRHOF.

It probably does. From what I understand when a band gets inducted they get to decide who goes in. So my guess is that Peter Gabriel will be included. Granted they became much more popular after he left and Phil Collins took over lead vocals, but Peter Gabriel is one of the original members so I think he's in.
This brings up an interesting thing, when Fleetwood Mac went the members inducted were Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Bob Welch was NOT included and I think he should have been. He was the link from the British Blues version of the band to the LA sound version. I don't think Billy Burnette, Rick Vito or any of the other "fill in's " should have been included, but Bob Welch should have been.

ABBA was HUGE in the 70's!! In Europe and Australia they were like the Beatles. In the States though they never quite got that huge. They had hits here but not like they did in the rest of the world. In 1992 when their "ABBA Gold" CD was released they saw a resurgence in their popularity after a decade of silence. They were offered $1 billion (yes BILLION) to reunite and tour but they weren't interested. Part of it may be that the group consisted of two married couples both of which long ago divorced. I have to say I have always found their stuff to be catchy and the songs will get locked in your skull and not leave you. I'm curious to see who shows up to accept, the blonde woman (Agnetha) seems to have completely walked away from the whole thing.

Don't post as much as I used to but since I was as big of an Abba fan in the late 1970s as I was of Fleetwood Mac ,and even saw them on their 18 date North American tour in 1979 I feel I can venture the opinion that Abba really had the goods. Andersson and Ulvaeus had a gift for melodic songwriting that has probably never been equalled in it's consistency and Agnetha and Anni-Frid were very underrated back then as vocalists .Like an earlier poster pointed out Abba 's reputation critically has reversed itself in a nearly unanimous storm of praise when from the perspective of time it became clear how good they really where. They are also by far the biggest pop or rock band to ever emerge from the Continent .A record that will likely stand forever.Although they are clearly more pop they richly deserve a place in the RRHOF.I also concur with those who feel that Madonna should not be there.Never has anyone gotten so far on so little.
