Houston Texas elects openly gay mayor

Hats off to the residents of Houston Texas!:blob2: They have just become the largest city in the U.S to ever elect an openly gay mayor, a lady by the name of Annise Parker. Somewhere up there Harvey Milk is smiling down on us all.:)

Houston's population is around 2.2 million. For this run-off election, only 152,000 voted. Parker got 54% of those votes.

The sad thing is is that many of the uninformed voters in Houston didn't even know what she stood for-- all the media focused on was that she was openly gay.

I couldn't give a hoot who she sleeps with, but I just hope she will represent us as a whole (even with that pathetic voter participation in the run-off) and not stick to a personal agenda.

I was going to say the same thing Alexa. Why was the voter turnout so bad???

From what I've heard, it seems like she has some decent experience, you hopefully you all will be alright! :nod:
