Stevie featured in Spin Magazine "Rock Myths" article

December's Spin Magazine features 33 debunked rock myths, legends and lies. As I was flipping through there it was, the "coke in the ass" Stevie myth. Thankfully they placed it on the low plausibility list. Here's a link to the online version.

Such a shame that particular myth had to escalate to the point of having to be debunked in print and circulated. Good thing Stevie is a tough ol' gal. If it were me, I'd be mortified!

PS: I love Spin, but shame on you guys for not treating a classy lady with more respect.

Exactly. Some people take all of this a bit too seriously. C'mon... just try to envision the witchy, fairytale loving, twirling, "out there" Stevie Nicks bending over and getting coke blown up her tush... that's funny ****!

Everyone needs to remember, Stevie signed herself up for fame... that includes the bad plus the good. Not to mention, Stevie has let the world know the past several years that she's a tough ass take no **** kinda gal. I *LOVE* her matra that she doesn't walk into a room without letting every single person know that she could take them down. Stevie is NOT the fragile, delicate, spacey little nymph of her stage persona. To stay in the Hollywood record business for nearly four decades you have to be incredibly thick skinned, and I believe every bit that she is.

I don't know why everybody is so quick to discount this story anyway. I think it's perfectly plausible. She went to the plastic surgeon at the start of the Rock A Little Tour, and he told her the next time she did coke she could die. Stevie herself said that didn't stop her... that she couldn't stop in the middle of a tour, and that she'd only do as much as she had to to get through the tour, then she'd check into rehab. Seems to me like if you're addicted to coke, and it's burned a hole through your nose that could give you a brain hemorrhage and kill you, yet you couldn't stop... you'd look for other ways to get the coke high. It just seems logical.

Spin is losing credibility w/ me... If you take a look at the rest of the issue one article slams Radiohead, while a few pages over Lady GaGa is being praised for her "brilliant songwriting skills." "I wanna take a ride on your discostick."?? I think not.

Stevie's denied it and that's enough for me. Give it a rest. It's not funny, especially for someone who's at the butt (pun intended) of the jokes.

What are the logistics actually involved? Can you actually get high just from having coke inserted into your anus? How is it put there? A person couldn't "blow" coke powder very far past the sphincter, & unless you've emptied your bowels recently, wouldn't the natural muscle motility of the colon wall lining merely move the coke onward & downward?

Is there even enough time for the cocaine to enter your bloodstream? By what mechanism would it do so? I can understand having cocaine in liquid form injected into the bloodstream perhaps, much the way liquid penicillin is often injected into the fatty tissue of the rear end. But that's a far cry from having powder "blown" into the anus.

I've known of people doing ecstasy pills anally... apparently it hits your blood stream faster and gives you a better high (I wouldn't know ). The colon is kind of like a giant sponge... it absorbs things very well. Hence gay men's susceptibility to the HIV virus (and why 70% of gay men who get HIV are on the "receiving" end). Back in my clubbing days I'd heard of people doing all sorts of drugs in this fashion. I've only ever drank and smoked pot though... so I wouldn't know first hand .

It's the same type of tissue as the inside of your nose. The same idea as a suppository.

I just remembered, there was actually an episode of Californication on Showtime this season where two people were doing coke & when one of the people was offered it he said "sure, why not?" & mentioned something about Stevie.

I was actually wondering this very thing. Seriously, not to be funny. But then I thought of suppositories and sometimes they can introduce prescription drugs into the system that way can't they. I don't know.

But that's the thing about rumors: they fly even if they aren't physically possible. Michele

I don't understand; Why put shame on Spin? They are debunking a long-standing rumour!
