Favorite Guilty Pleasure Song?
Ok, so do any of you have a Stevie song you like that is really super bad? Or maybe one that's just wildly unpopular?
Ok, I'll admit it... I like Alice :o. From it's corny calliope esque sound, to Kenny G's awesomely bad saxophone solos, and Stevie's ultra foggy tranquilized lyrics... I freaking love it all! I've always had a problem really pinpointing what exactly about this song I like. It's more than the sum of it's terrible Adult Contemporary parts. Despite all of it, I guess "it's just a feeling"... it's a thoroughly-Stevie escapist song, and that's probably why I like it. It takes you to the other side of the mirror to the fairytale Stevie realm. And I think any of her songs that transport you there are ok by me. |
I like almost ever single Stevie song so I guess I like some somegs that are less popular.....haha :D

It's reall up to you on how you grade Mama's songs. Some people think Street Angel is good others don't. In the end we all have our own tastes - and hey Stevie's not the only artist who has changed style and sound.
But, if i did have to choose - I would go The Nightmare :D (I know, I know - but think of that tune) Matt (oops Meowi :sorry:) |
I guess the two that I really like that I've noticed a lot of people can't stand are Welcome To The Room Sara... and Silver Girl.
|
I like Silver Girl up until Stevie sings "She was a Golden Girl...."
I then get visions of Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche and Rose sitting at the table eating cheesecake. |
Welcome to the Room...Sara - I think it's horrendously underrated, myself. I've always loved the spoken, 'this is a dream, right?' bit.

I actually like her version of "Just Like a Woman" (ducks). I think it's cute when she does those Dylan-esque affectations with her voice, and I like the fact that she really connects with the lyrics; she's not just simply going through it note-for-note. This is one song for which I will sing along. Every time.

The Nightmare. Most of you seem to hate this song, but not me, I LOVE it. Right off the bat from the opening music that seems to cascade down a ladder at you to her singing about the ivory morning which always reminds me of Tusk. And she paled in the wake of what some call a dream, but you cannot know a dream till you've known the nightmare. True, true, oh how true.
More Tusk album references: so about the moon and her sister's, how dare he take them prisoner. and then the cascading music that falls right after these words. From a night persons perspective: blinded by the light of the day, ooh she has known the nightbird....... |
I actually really like The Nightmare too. I especially like the verse:
Somewhere in her ancient ways, she walks through the night... I guess because I can kinda relate to it. To me it's about being different, and not always liking the modern way of life... but still going nonetheless! |
Is Running Through The Garden a guilty pleasure song ? (I know some people say that it's a horrible song.)
If it is, it would be mine ! NEVER DID I MEAN TO (never did I mean to) IMPRISON YOU (imprison youuu) ... I absolutely LOVE this song, and I'm going crazy when I hear it :). |

It's just like with Beautiful Child. Someone commented on the, "You say it will be harder in the morning" line. I haven't been able to listen to it seriously since. |
