Drunkenness at shows?
 

so I was talking to LikeAWillow the other night about drunk fan encounters.

Here is my own story:
in 2008 at Stevie's solo show in Cincinnati, there were a couple of super drunk ladies by my mom and I. One of them was groping the security guard and proceeded to vomit on him. Classy. In my ear the whole time some woman is continually yelling "GET IT STEVIE!!!" so all my video from the concert has the backdrop of her awesome voice. Then my mom gets asked how long we've been together....as in how long my mom and I have been a couple. Awkward? yeah, kind of.

Thankfully I've never had any bad encounters at FM shows...

Personally, I don't drink at shows because I'd prefer to remember going.

does anyone else have ridiculous stories to share?

Should we limit the stories to drunken fans or do we include drunken band members?:lol:


I was at the SYW show when the Reno fight interrupted the show. But I was on the other side from where the disturbance took place, so I wasn't personally impacted. I had a drunk woman hugging me and creating chaos at one of Lindsey's concerts in Vegas and security asked me if I wanted to move to another seat. I would have preferred that they have made her move.

For a second I was thinking this was going to be about someone in the band performing drunk. It happens.:shrug:

(I've seen Jakob Dylan in concert tons of times over the years and I know for a fact he's been either drunk, hungover, or operating by way of additional narcotics possibly 3/4th of these experiences.)

Back on topic: it does suck to have bad drunken experiences. I always do. I'm not a large girl and often I end up squeezed between several loud-mouthed drunks who decide it's not particularly a bad thing to start dancing with each other (with me in the middle), or picking fights with each other (again, with me in the middle), or just acting like raging fools and drowning out some of my fave moments. These people usually end up with great seats, which makes my over-zealous effort to attain such seats seem fruitless. At Lalapalooza I can forgive, but for gawd's sake who gets drunk at Leonard Cohen shows?

I ask you...

In true Irish fashion it must be said that a lot of the people dancing up at the front of the stage the other night were not exactly "drunk", but as we like to say in this country.."had drink taken".;)

I dunno if anyone was lucky enough to witness the two blonde drunk women who kept shouting at our heroes on stage for multiple handshakes, etc.
Now THOSE TWO we cudda done without. I distinctly remember one asking for a boost onstage, but when she got half way up, gravity proved to be too cruel a mistress and she fell flat on her ass. Much appreciated really!

Not forgetting the lovely drunk girl who legged it across stage during Don't Stop, but didnt get very far!:thumbsup:

I dont see why people paid up to 130 euro just to go and get drunk off overpriced alcohol anyway.. I know I wouldn't have a hope of remembering the gig if I was drunk at it (the excitement has made me forget some stuff as it stands!).. And I would definitely spend a lot of the near future kicking myself if I couldn't remember a night like Saturday!

There were two drunk guys at the SYW concert at the PNC Center. It actually worked to my advantage, though. We were in the aisle, about 10 rows back and one of the guys was moderately drunk--the other was very, very drunk. Somehow, people were leaving the aisle to go get more drunk--and we moved up a bit. But, then really, really drunk guy decided he didn't like my rather lady-like applauding and told me to do the over the head seal clap.
I kind of shook my head and he grabbed my hands and was about to sort of...well, make me. But, even though I'm very quiet in real life, I'm told I have quite the stare of doom if I get angry enough and not so drunk guy saw it, grabbed really, really drunk guy's hands away from mine and told him "let's get some more beer." In the meantime (and I'm not even sure how this happened...we had moved up a lot) and a girl who was standing by the stage...way to the right--made room for me and gestured me over. I really think it was just early on in the concert when a lot of people were making beer runs and I just managed to get to the stage for the rest of the show when I had originally started out in row 11.

The ugliest drunk episode was the first MSG show for this tour. I was standing at the stage on Stevie's side and this drunken woman was yelling--pretty much through the whole concert for Stevie to sing "Leather and Lace." At the beginning, it was just shout outs. At the end, it was getting ugly. She was actually swearing at Stevie. "Goddamn it, sing ****ing Leather and Lace!" Yeah, that was very sweet. And, I know for a fact (because I was eavesdropping before the concert) that her boyfriend bought those tickets that morning through a broker and paid mucho dinero for her to act like a total jerk.

At the Calgary show in 2004 there were two drunk douchebags behind me who proceeded to blow pot smoke in my face and yell "Go You Own Way" between every song. I was really more angry about that than anything else...but it didn't really ruin the night for me...it was my first time seeing the Mac, so that would've been impossible.

A fight broke out on the floor of the Calgary 2009 show, but security hauled the guys off very quickly...pretty sure they were missing some inhibitions at that point, but only a minor distration.

As for my own theories about drinking at Mac shows...
In 2004 I was 16 so there was no issue.
But in 2009 I was torn between wanting to remember every single beautiful moment from the Calgary/Edmonton shows, and drinking BECAUSE I CAN now. Ha! So I compromised. Had better seats in Calgary, so I had one beer at dinner and then stuck with water for the rest of the night. In Edmonton, we had nose bleeds, so I got a little buzzed, made friends with another slightly buzzed woman who was dying to hear GDW, and had a great time. Two amazing nights...two different experiences.

I feel terrible for all of you that have had horrible, obnoxious experiences. golddustdrummer...the vomitting woman would have killed any buzz I had, alcoholic or otherwise. I HATE vomit.

At the start of the encore for opening night SYW tour in Columbus, a couple of plastered women tried to horn in on my front row center seats/area. Aggressively so (shoving me and my then-girlfriend). After letting off a few well-deserved "F*** you!"'s, I successfully got the helpful Schottenstein Center security guard's (who we had chatted up before the show) attention, and got them thrown out of the arena (literally saw them go backstage and shoved out into the loading dock). No "Goodbye Baby" for them! :thumbsup:

ugh, I can't stand the drunks at FM concerts. I find they are very different at Stevie and FM shows. Honestly, I just don't get it. They tend to be close to the stand and, in my opinion, what a waste of money! Don't get me wrong, I love a good drink or two with friends but when I'm paying THAT much money, I'd like to remember the show. I have seen it all. People doing a hoe-down (complete with throwing a girl up in the air) in the aisle during Big Love. You wouldn;t believe the look of doom Lindsey was giving them. In all honesty, it's understandable. EVERYONE was distracted and was staring at them-totally took the attention away from him. I've seen people pushed, shoved and trampled to get a hand shake, etc. I've seen people that are just quiet drunks- that get up every other song to get a drink. In doing so, they miss the entire concert. SO crazy.

Those two women came up to us too!... Almost completely ruined GDW :(

And as if that wasn't bad enough, another guy started lighting up and smoking a joint!... I'm pretty sure Stevie saw and smelt the smoke go past the stage... I was sickened!...

i copied & pasted this from my omaha 'unleashed' review~

but i have to tell you about the drunk girl~ all the people up front had paid to be there & a few others were let up, it seemed like the 1st 12 rows were let to come up front~ everyone was so polite & gracious it was just awesome~ until the drunk lady came~ she was in her 40's i think, she was w/ her daughter who i felt mortified for~ she stood behind me & a few other girls, just wasted off of her ass by like song 5~ she was chanting "stevie, stevie..." over & over in a childish squeaky way~ & she was sitting there telling people around her how she was going to take their spot by the stage~ everyone was trying to band together & stand their ground & then she just starts slamming into people knocking them aside & then running to their spot, she kept doing this to everyone that was around her~ people were getting pissed~ she dumped beer on one poor woman's head~ & half way thru the show she was leaning on her daughter nearly passing out she was so wasted~ I had damaged my shoe right when i got into the show, but was able to to walk in it, but she knocked me completely off of my platform, the whole damn sole came off & i stood there like that the rest of the night~ i was glad there was no security at one point because we were able to be so close but was dying for one to come by & throw this lady out~ i swear part of the reason i was even chosen by stevie to shake hands was because stevie could see this all going on right under her nose~ there was absolutely no need for someone to act this way at a show~ people wanted to hurt her~ one guy even shoved her after she had slopped beer on his wife's head for the 2nd time~ she was awful & i really hope she was sicker than a dog the next day~ she should be embarrassed at the way she acted, if she even remembered~

i told her at one point i paid to be standing where i was & i was standing there & she got in my face & mumbled something & then i told her to get her drunk stinky breath out of my face & then she proceeded to blow real hard in my face like 3 times~ she did this to others too~

at first i think my husband thought i was just getting riled up because i was so excited, but then he saw what she was doing along w/ like 100 other people that was in her range & they were all disgusted~ stevie was shooting daggers at her everytime she looked the drunk chicks way~ & when stevie shook the hubby's & i's hand, this chick tried in vain to squeeze up there~ stevie snatched her hand from out of the range of this drunk lady, it was priceless~

OMG YES! I was moving back over to my Stevie spot (everyone was actually lovely whenever I moved back and forth from Lindsey to Stevie.. best of both worlds haha!) and I saw a guy rolling and thought "hmmm, didn't know you could smoke in the 02!".. then I SMELT what he was smoking and was like.."Yeah, you definitely can't SMOKE in the 02".. can't believe they got away with it. Stevie must've smelt it, we were right underneath her and there was alot of smoke.

I still can't believe they got away with it..:eek:
