maybe a maroon valance across the top would help. Glad to hear you're liking your new place. It looks good! I love the flooring pattern.

Egads, no valences! Ugh! Swags should be outlawed... except if worn on stage by Stevie Nicks.

I think fabric cellular/bubble shades would be your best bet in this situation. They have kind of a modern, organic origami kind of vibe and they're quite versatile and relatively inexpensive to have custom-made. Since this is more of a modern space than an older space with pre-war detail, you should definitely avoid anything that is too froo-froo.

Maybe do a cotton voile drape in ivory or white (VERY sheer to let the light in even when drawn) layered under a heavier dupioni silk drape (for instance) in a rich shade.

This is shown layered with a nice sheer drape underneath:

That wheat shade for the silk drape (pictured) is very sharp.

Also check out the window hardware...rods and finials:

Hope this was helpful. :)

He could use the dress she wore on the cover of The Other Side of the Mirror:laugh:

Its a real challenge, because I want to warm up the rooms appearance and yet not introduce ruffles or drapey curtains. I wish I had money for dark wood blinds, that would change the window for sure.

I had a similar problem and used maroon window scarves. You can arrange them however you want and they are cheap. My apartment building won't let us take down their hideous white blinds, but it was better than nothing. I also face the east and need something to help block out the morning sun.

Well, I for one love this look - thanks for posting. I am so doing this in my dining room/back slider.

Thanks again.
