Street Angel

Why does everyone bash this one so much? Granted from what i've heard of it is kind of a bland album. But she sounds clearer, like she doesn't have a lot of machines and instruments behind her, not over produced I guess? I've only listened to up to Rose Garden, and it's not that bad sounding, although not the best.

What do you guys think? I saw a review on Amazon where someone said this was his favorite by Stevie and the most underrated.

I love Street Angel, as much as I love all Stevie's albums :) I think her voice is really good in it and the songs are awesome!!! I think it's a great album and not that bad as some thinks... ;)

I love most of SA. The only songs I can live without are the Dylan cover and the Monkey.

Monkey? I've heard tale of this monkey don't know which song it is mentioned in.

Maybe Stevie wants a monkey?

The songs don't have enough unicorns in them, so the fans bash it.

I think it sounds great. Good songs, played very straightforwardly & recorded clearly. Engineering is kind of poor, especially on Docklands. All in all, one of Stevie's best -- & least pretentious -- albums. I could listen to Destiny & Just Like a Woman all day.

All you haterz who don't like Street Angel -- she is not a witch! get a life!

I have to admit I am one of the ones who thinks she is Wiccan, although I do like her songs even if they don't have unicorns in them! :D

Street Angel is a good, if flawed album. Get rid of Unconditional Love though. louielouie made some very good comments about it in a previous thread. I'll see if I can find them...

Well I've said this before, no-one does Dylan like Dylan. However, full credit to Stevie for trying. You don't know you will fail unless you try ;)

I agree David....Street Angel shows a more versatile (less airy-fairy) side of Stevie. Although, I love the airy-fairyness, I love Street Angel.
I just bought this album at a used music store about a week ago, and I had reservations because of the bad reviews...but, I was not about to leave a poor, lowly Stevie CD in that store!!! I'm glad I bought it.

Musicman408 10-11-2009 04:48 PM

Street Angel was the first solo album I got after Timespace. I immediately fell for this album- you know how most albums have to grow on you- this one was instant love, and it still is. I actually listened to it on the way back to school today!!!

silvasprings 10-12-2009 01:27 AM

I think this album just needed a bit more production it was a little to bland in spots and i definitely agree that Docklands, Just Like A Woman, Unconditional Love and Jane should have been scrapped or at least changed so that they didn't have Laundromats and Forgotten Chimpanzee's in their lyrics...
