Let's Talk About . . . The Highwayman
'Ya know . . . I THOUGHT I understood this song. . . . . :p
But I was reading a book today which mentioned a highwayman coming across somebody in the woods and accosting the narrator (really more in a metaphorical way - it was somebody who wanted to talk to him and the guy wanted to just be left alone - kinda, sorta...) - and the song flashed into my mind for a second and I was like "WHOA-ho!!! OOHHHHohhhh! . . . " Discuss! . . . . :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-BtigvBHRE P.S. - Believe it or not I can't figure out how to embed Youtube videos in here!!! . . . . |
I'm listening to this song for the first time in FOREVER...... I'll get back to you :)

Whoa...this is really weird... I've had this song in my head for the past couple of hours even though I so rarely listen to it. It's one of the BellaDonna tracks I don't know so well, even though I have just again realised how wonderul it is - I must play it over and over for the next little while! So I've listened to it for the first time in ages, now there's this thread, and Dani's reply...Freaky! I'll have a think and get back to you. |
I would post something new, but since I started a "Highwayman" thread a few months ago...

I didnt like this song the first 10 times I heard it then after that I started to dig it

Today and still today they ride
Will they ever win? He the glory... She the love... Still they try again He the glory... She the love... Still they try again I adore this part. "He the glory, she the love, still they try again". So perfect. |
Oh, and....
Stevie, (and Lindsey, too, actually) seems to always rely on writing about winners and losers, and this song is no exception. "Will they ever win?" - I'm a senior ledgie now! |
I've always loved the connection between "Will they ever win?" here and "Will you ever win?" in Rhiannon.
I'm sure it wasn't intended, but it's perfection. Love this line especially: "Her horse is like a dragonfly and she is just a fool" "And then he sees her coming, heartbeats on the wind" |
I know this will be controversial, but this song truly does nothing for me. I usually stop Bella Donna at the start of The Highwayman.
*ducking to avoid garbage and rotting vegetables being thrown in my direction* |
A flawless 1970s southern California style rock ballad with a great lead vocal by Stevie and the perfect way to end a nearly perfect album.I really don't get some of the complaints about the production of this song from the other thread.Bella Donna was Stevie at her peak of her performance and stardom.

it is one of the few Stevie songs I just don't care for... |
That's freaky...I was just thinking the other day that The Highwayman will be the next song to "talk about". Anyway, it's never been one of my favorites:( I don't hate it but don't love it either.
