Songs of Stevie and their copyright dates

This is from an e-mail I received in December,2006. I tried to search this database with no luck. Maybe one of you can figure it out and find more songs, but at least this gives us an idea of when these songs were actually written. Love, Viv

Out of curiosity I searched the US Copyright database for Stevie songs. (Anyone can do this at http://www.copyright.gov/records/.)

I ran across a number of songs that I've never heard of.

By title with copyright/create dates, they were:

Thunder - 8/31/76
Tall Man Riding - 8/2/77
You Like Me (with M. Campbell) - 4/20/87
Maker of the Birds - 5/12/78
Frustrated Love - 5/12/78
Storm - 2/12/79 - same as Storms???
I call You Missing - 3/12/93
Blue is a Valuable Word - 6/27/94
In the Darkness - 6/15/00- created in 1999
Real Tears - 11/20/89
For John - 12/22/80
Free Style (with L. Dudek) - 2/24/86
The Charmed Ones: The City of Hope Song (with J. Piergeorge and D. Russell) -3/30/88
Angel in Waiting - 4/21/95 - created in 1982
The Seduction of Man - 4/21/95

Wouldn't this one possibly be Edge Of Seventeen?

Angel in Waiting is a painting.

Wasn't Real Tears a B-side around the time of Other Side of the Mirror? I certainly have an mp3 of a song with that name somewhere, although I always thought it was from the Rock A Little era but this date says not... It's not a fantastic song anyway in my opinion.

Thunder = Dreams?

nailatixela 08-03-2009 09:00 AM

Here are my guesses for what the songs are

Thunder - Dreams
Maker of the Birds - This is that demo that goes by the same name.
Frustrated Love - Mistaken Love or Forsaken Love (I've seen both titles used - demo)
Storm - I'd bet same as storms.
I call You Missing - This is the demo I Call You Missing. Has lines from a few other songs like Whole Lotta Trouble
In the Darkness - Hmm - maybe Space Needle?
Real Tears - OSOTM B-Side
For John - Could be Edge.
Free Style (with L. Dudek) - Wasn't that the name of a song of Dudek's album?
The Charmed Ones: The City of Hope Song (with J. Piergeorge and D. Russell) - City of Hope demo.
Angel in Waiting - I would think it was Desert Angel - but not if it was created in 82 like you said.

Well, according to the copyright data base it's a visual art/painting copyrighted on that date. When you look them up it tells you what it is. (at least what form it came in when it was copyrighted.)

Type of Work: Visual Material
Registration Number / Date: VAu000333512 / 1995-04-21
Title: Angel in waiting.
Description: Drawing.
Copyright Claimant: Stephanie Nicks, 1948-
Date of Creation: 1982

Most of these of like Real Tears probably are songs but Angel In Waiting isn't. I know she has a few paintings and a few texts (stories/poems) listed on there. I looked her up when I was in my copyright law class.

I'm guessing that "Tall Man Riding " is The Highwayman ..the dates add up.

I'd guess that "In The Darkness" was an early version of what turned out to be "Everybody Finds Out" on the 'Say You Will' cd...which has been getting spins in my car this week for the first time in a long while- I'm finally appreciating 'Love Minus Zero' and 'Not Make Believe' from the 2nd disc more than I had back in '02, give me six or seven years with little new product, and I'm able to go back and find new favorites :)
I still think 'Everybody Finds Out' was the best dang song Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac had come up with for years! Someone here long ago posted the alernate version that featured Lindsey so prominently, and I love that version, too.

"Real Tears" is a b-side from the Other Side of the Mirror. "You Like Me" is a great song that the Williams Brothers recorded and released. (In turn, Stevie recorded and released their song "Some Become Strangers.") Their version also appears on their own album.

This is interesting, because the song "I Call You Missing," as it exists, has a lot of lyrics that emerged in "Whole Lotta Trouble."
