Logo Launches 'NewNowNext Icons' Honoring Timeless Music Legends With a Tribute to Stevie Nicks

"NewNowNext Icons" Joins the "NewNowNext Music" Franchise with Its Premiere Featuring Grammy Award-Winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Stevie Nicks

NEW YORK, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Logo, a division of Viacom Inc.'s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks, announced today the launch of a new series of specials, "NewNowNext Icons," focusing on the timeless music legends that have reached icon status in the eyes of the LGBT community and the greater world of pop culture. The special premieres with an intimate interview by award-winning music artist and visionary Stevie Nicks airing July 19 at 12 AM Midnight ET/PT and LOGOonline.com.

In the premiere of this half-hour special, "NewNowNext Icons," Stevie Nicks discusses various aspects of her career as a solo artist and part of legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac. Nicks also opens up about her own inspirations, future projects and her thoughts on why the LGBT community has embraced her music and persona. Throughout the special, hit music videos including "Landslide," "Gypsy" and "Stand Back" will be featured demonstrating her impact in music and popular culture. Dubbed the "reigning queen of Rock and Roll" by Rolling Stone Magazine, Nicks recently released her "Live in Chicago" DVD celebrating her first live recorded performance since 1985, as well as the recent release of her new CD "The Soundstage Sessions." Along with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie has produced over forty Top 50 hits and has sold nearly 120 million albums.

The newest show in the "NewNowNext" family takes on these legends with hosted spots, music videos, and archival footage including rarely seen interviews from the MTV and VH1 vaults. "NewNowNext Icons" brings the "NewNowNext" franchise to full circle. As modern up-and-coming artists on Logo's "NewNowNext Music" and "NewNowNext Pop Lab" attribute their inspiration to pop culture icons, "NewNowNext Icons" offers an intimate and unique point of view from the icons themselves on why their legendary status is synonymous with their work and persona. Past hosts of "NewNowNext Music" and "NewNowNext Pop Lab" including Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Lilly Allen, Lady GaGa, Del Marquis of "Scissor Sisters," La Roux and Fischerspooner represent the upcoming icons of tomorrow. "NewNowNext Icons" will consist of a series of specials premiering throughout the year highlighting the rare few that have reached such superstardom as headliners such as Stevie Nicks.

"NewNowNext Icons: Stevie Nicks" will premiere July 19 at 12 AM ET/PT and LOGOonline.com. For more information about "NewNowNext Icons", go to LOGOonline.com and NewNowNext.com.

Wow!!

I wish I had cable so I could watch it!
I'll probably have to settle for snippets on youtube.

whoops.
I guess it will be online, too!!! YAY!

Wow- Its about time!!! This rings so true and close to my heart, being that I am an "open gay male", who ADORES and is INSPIRED by Stevie! I have heared her comment on the "Gay community" before but never really in depth, so this should be really neat. Stevie really does have so many gay, lesbian, Bi, and tgender fans/followers, as she does straight! Stevie isnt for just one group, color, religion, sex, size, or anything, I am just so pleased that she is doing this!!!

Move over, Cher. Stevie Nicks has just been declared an icon by the gay community. Specifically, MTV Networks’ gay-themed Logo channel has announced that the Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter will be the first subject of a new series of specials dubbed “NewNowNext Icons.”

The shows will focus on “the timeless music legends that have reached icon status in the eyes of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and the greater world of pop culture,” according to a Logo statement.

In the half-hour premiere airing at midnight EDT/PDT on July 19, Nicks will share her thoughts on why the LGBT community has embraced her music and persona, Logo said. She will also discuss her career, inspirations and future projects. Music videos for tunes such as “Landslide,” “Gypsy” and “Stand Back” will also be featured. A Logo spokesman declined to identify the subjects of additional “NewNowNext Icons” specials.

Thank you so much Viv for sharing this with us, I really appreciate it!! I am so excited about this show, I bet it will be great.

This is freaking awesome! Thanks, Viv, for the info...I will have to get my sister to tape it for me (our cable is from 1985...we get nothing here in the sticks...)

Its great that the LGBT community is giving Stevie her due! She has always been the one and only original for me, even when it has sometimes been a more un-popular opinion. It's apparent as time goes by, Stevie is recognized by the younger generations as a true legend and visionary....which alluded her at the height of her stardom.
Miles and miles more original and creative than the manufactured pop galore of Madonna or Cher. Stevie has played a very intricate role in the roots of pop culture during the 70's and 80's with her unique rock opera stage presence and truly original songwriting and delivery!!

Its hard not to say 'I told you so', being a fan from the beginning, and really becoming a hardcore fan during Bella Donna til now...These are the moments when you exhale and steadfastly know the cream has risen to the top.

Doesn't this mean we will be able to watch this online too? Why is everyone in such a panic over watching it on tv or not??

Help, my head is exploding from this whopper. Yes, we get that she has had an enormously successful recording career, but there is no need to make up statistics like this. I would love to see them try to substantiate this claim.

I saw the commercial for it last night. It looks pretty cool.

It is only a 1/2 hour show and they are playing 3 videos, so with commercials, I don't know how much interview we will get.

Still very cool. I hope it's new stuff and not re-hashed old stuff.

wildheart048 07-15-2009 05:12 AM

I can't recall too many interviews where Stevie has publicly acknowledge her gay fan base (other than references to NOTS) so I'm thinking it will have to be new???

I am always confused by midnight airings...do you think it will be midnight the morning of the 19th, or midnight that night?
