Downloading songs from Myspace

The more technologically aware amongst you probably already know how to do this, but I was excited to discover tonight that you can download songs that people have on their myspace page using the following:

http://file2hd.com/Default.aspx

There are several songs by various FM members such as Bekka, Dave W and Bob Weston that I've been able to download in this way!

I'm guessing it works for other pages too but I haven't tried that!

BTFLCHLD 05-23-2009 11:01 AM

downloading copyright material for free?
I'd rather support an artist and make the purchase.

fleetwoodtrick 05-23-2009 01:30 PM

I suppose this would work for the Fritz songs posted too?

I really hope this works. I've been looking to download the L'Homme Run songs for a while now.

Sorry, you misunderstood me. The whole point is that you can't purchase some of these songs. They get posted on their myspace pages but not elsewhere... I've never seen some of the stuff that appears on myspace available for purchase anywhere... If it was, I'd buy it.

Sometimes it's really hard t0 find songs or albums., especially by old and relatively unknown bands.

Don't take this as a personal attack, and maybe you're making
a joke here. But I'm so sick of this attitude that so many have
on this board like "I'd rather support the artist and make the
purchase" etc..etc.

I'd bet more than 90% of us on this board have illegal, stolen,
bootlegs, or whatever adjective you'd like to use to describe
the music we've aquired from Stevie, Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac.

There sure are different levels of hypocrisy on this subject too.
The "I buy their music, and only download or trade for their music
and videos that's not officially available" is one big load of crap.
I don't see a big difference in that than in the one's who sell it.
Oops.........I said it. didn't I? Because when it comes down to it,
it's all illegal!.

Over and over it's been proven that most who buy, sell or trade for
bootlegs are the same ones who buy all the official releases (sometimes,
many times over). So in that way the artist are not hurting.

The only exception that I can see is where a pre-release (preview,
promotional, advance copy) is being sold, traded or downloaded.
In that instance, that could possibly hurt the artist sales of a particular
CD. But even that, is not always the case. Did it hurt Lindsey's sales
on "Gift Of Screws"? I doubt it. It really wasn't going to sale that much
in the first place, was it?

I'm not advocating selling copies of officially or unofficially released music.
I'm just saying most of us here are hypocrites. But, please anyone
who wants to throw stones at me because of these statements, just
look and make sure you don't have in your possession any illegally
gotten music or videos. And don't you dare look at YouTube.

I think that most people on this board go out and buy the official releases. Yes we trade in demos, bootlegs and whatever else. However we are also the hardcore fans that go out and buy the officially released album. I have probably purchased more legal copies of FM and their 16 individual solo careers than most people on this board.

I do believe that people shouldn't download an album off the net where it is readily available in the music store. However I've done it myself many times to sample artists who perhaps I might not like or to find albums have gone out of print.

There is also the problems of tracks being released in one country and not another. I'm in Australia, and we are lucky if anything is available that isn't Top 40 or kiddie pop. Most of my albums I have purchased off the internet because you can not walk into an Australian music store and buy them. I gave up trying to get music stores to do international orders.

I'm also tired of paying ridiculous premiums to import albums and ridiculous amounts of postage. I ordered Jeremy Spencer - In Session yesterday (a birthday present from my parents) which cost me A$37 including postage (about US$27). I purchased a 1 cent album off Amazon and then had to pay nearly US$7 in postage.

Additionally I can't download through Amazon, Zune, etc because I don't live in the US.

So, after my little rant, this is why I sometimes download things off the net that perhaps I shouldn't.

Regardless of which, my initial post was about downloading a song from someone's Myspace page that they have uploaded for us to listen to that is not commercially available. Acquiring that song is certainly no different from trading in demos. I just want to be able to burn it to a CD and listen in my car, upload to an iPod (when I get one), etc.

My post wasn't directed at you, it was more the attitude that some
people have toward making, buying or selling illegal copies. The post
I originally quoted is common place around here. When you ask a
simple question as you did in your original post, some of Stevie's little
"Angels" chime in with the same old "downloading copywrited material
for free"...jazz.

I just get a little sick of it, and I'm not throwing anyone in particular under
the bus. But if anyone wants to "support the artist", please feel free to send
them your money. Or better yet, send me your hard earned money and I'll
make sure Stevie, Lindsey, Christine, John and Mick receive it. The next time
I see them of course.

Over the years I've certainly did my part for them.

Nah thats cool, I was actually agreeing with you...

Anyway Stevie owes me for all the clothes I left in her closet when we broke up... (hey got to dream haven't I?)

Oh come on, I'm not throwing stones as I personally don't collect bootlegs, but watching youtube and downloading shows that aren't commercially available isn't the same as downloading an album that is easily available to buy.
I also don't get why you'd be offended at the thought of financially supporting the band we love. Sounds pretty cool to me.

I was overreaching on purpose just to make a point (the YouTube comment).
And I'd mentioned the different levels of hypocrisy, not about you, but more
the morality police that make sure to say "how dare anyone download or sell
copywrited material". Yet these are the same people who download, trade for,
and buy or sell the bootleg material.

As far as being offended by the thought of financially supporting the band.
When I said if anyone wants to support the artist, my meaning was, if anyone
downloads, trades, or buys bootlegged material, and they want to pay the
artist royalties on that music or video because they feel guilty about stealing
it --- just send the money to me, and I'll get it to them.

1. People who only buy or have in their possession officially released material. (Not guilty).

2. Same as above, but watch illegally taped material on YouTube (a little guilty).

3. Same as above, but have in their possession bootlegs they traded for (more guilty).

4. Same as above, and also sell the bootlegs (guilty.....boo, hiss).

On that list, I'm not a number 1............who is?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTFLCHLD, Don't be too pleased, as I wasn't that sick.
Some of this was a bit tongue-in-cheek..

BTFLCHLD 05-24-2009 07:38 PM

were you born on uranus? there is a difference between concert bootlegs and commercial material that is readily available for purchase; the link posted does not make determination as to what is being downloaded.

sugarmegs
