Is it possible to disable smilies?

Okay, I'm not like everybody else. I HATE smilies. I find them the height of annoyance, especially the ones that move.

I have gone into my user CP and disabled avatars and signatures, which is a big help to my browsing experience, but if I could just disable smilies too, then I'd be in a state of bliss.

I sometimes turn off images in my browser which also disables smilies (you wind up with cute text like =blushing= instead of the matching emoticon) but I don't want to disable actual pictures, since they are often of interest.

Any chance?

Did you try pressing alt+f4?

If that fails you can watch this video I found on youtube, hopefully you may find it helpful:

Smilies that move are usually *.gif files. Trying to block all *.gif files with an Ad-Blocker might be of some help, but of course, this would block other gifs, too.
Still, it wouldn't block all graphics file formats.

May I recommend Adblock Plus for Firefox?

I use it. It's a big help. Whenever I see a computer that is using Internet Explorer I am astounded at how much absolute junk is on the screen that I never see in MY browser.

However, it doesn't disable those gif files of which you spoke, unless I'm missing something.
