"La Bella Donna Dela Mia Mente" - Oscar Wilde poem

La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente

My limbs are wasted with a flame,
My feet are sore with travelling,
For, calling on my Lady's name,
My lips have now forgot to sing.

O Linnet in the wild-rose brake,
Strain for my Love thy melody,
O Lark sing louder for love's sake,
My gentle Lady passeth by.

She is too fair for any man
To see or hold his heart's delight,
Fairer than Queen or courtesan
Or moonlit water in the night.
....

I found an old copy of The Works of Oscar Wilde at my local used book store, and came across this poem. (I only posted the first three stanzas) I remembered having seen these interviews from the bella donna era, where she discussed being very tired from touring - - just making a connection here ;)

Very interesting! That may be where she got the name. It may have clicked for her -- it was just what she wanted to express in those days.

Great interviews. Thanks for posting.

Makes a lot of sense! You DID make a connection! Really enjoyed your post and watching those videos. Thanks for sharing.

And to think how we rely on weekends to get grounded again from a five day work week! Putting that into perspective with someone who tours for months or years on end, it must be really difficult to maintain your focus.

Ironic, isn't it? Stevie has always said this is her life. I mean her music, her songs, her albums, and of course being on stage. But tours can be exhaustive, not doubt. I wonder if she ever thought of leaving show business, what else would she want to do, or want to be?

She should do something different, like the Rhiannon movie shes talked about or some sort of ballet. I reckon it would be awesome if she did.

Just because she never wanted to be an actress doesnt mean she can't be a director

Then after that she'll miss touring and be excited to go out again

Stevie has excellent taste. I know she referenced The Picture of Dorian Gray and in particular the line, "I like men who have a future, and women who have a past" with this song:

Paper Doll
You like a man with a future
You like a woman with a past
Well do you really believe that
She said to faces in the crowd

(yesterday I was facinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else

And even if you did miss me
You never let me know
You prefer to be just a little bit
In and out of love with me
And not to scream and shout
You prefer to be just a little bit
In and out of agony

(yesterday I was facinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else

Come on now, let the sad winds blow down
As the rain came, she refused to wear her coat
But deep in her heart she knew, that the song must go on

He says well I have forgotten you
And your beautiful eyes
We were off the wall
We were mirrors of our former selves

Well you could have said no
You could have said well I just cant
Whoa we were off the wall
We were mirrors of each other
Passing by

(yesterday I was facinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else

Repeat

Well I was your paper doll
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Paper doll
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Well I was you paper doll
(yesterday I was fascinated by somebody else)
Paper doll

And it doesnt even matter
(I was fascinated by somebody else)
It was a real clear answer
(I was fascinated by somebody else)
I was fascinated by somebody else
(I was fascinated by somebody else

** It must be noted: O. Wilde is greatness! And I don't care if that's a popular opinion of the status quo re: classic lit. already...he rocks. His work is so perfectly satirical and poignant and real at the same time. He was such an interesting guy as well. Total drama surrounded him. In some ways, Stevie Nick's persona and Oscar Wilde's could probably be great friends. I know he adored Sarah Bernhardt and she was possibly the most divine woman of her generation. So I have a feeling he'd probably dig Stevie for some reason.

The brackish water that we drink
Creeps with a loathsome slime,
And the bitter bread they weigh in scales
Is full of chalk and lime,
And Sleep will not lie down, but walks
Wild-eyed and cries to Time.

-- Wilde, "The Ballad of Reading Gaol"

Ooh...come around tonight indecent
Well...
Ah, ha...come around
Tonight, indecent...baby well,
You fill the room
With the rain and the wind and the water

If you tell me,
One more time
Oh baby, take it easy
Well, you won't see me ever again

-- Nicks, "No Spoken Word"
