Albany, NY Show Cancelled & Changed to Toronto

So it looks like they cancelled the Albany, NY show on March 17th to go to Toronto...

According to the stickied New dates thread. And I heard on a radio station it was cancelled but not why...

Any news on why?

DavidMn 01-14-2009 03:13 PM

No the other Toronto show is APRIL 17th.

LukeA 01-14-2009 03:48 PM

Nope, Albany is cancelled.

I (and others) noted how poorly this show was selling, so I can't say this is all that much of a surprise. I guess this means Rochester is safe?

Albany Cancelled, Toronto to the rescue.....

People,

I am really disapointed for all the fans in the Albany area that this show has been cancelled.

Its bad news for everyone that even one show is cancelled, hopefully that is it, &, all the other shows are safe &, good to go.

On the upside, Toronto, is a great city, &, has always supported every single band that has ever visited, (the Eagles recently sold out 4 nights at the same venue).

I would suggest to anyone who had planned to go to the Albany show, to please consider making the trip to Toronto.

It's really a quite a nice safe town, easy to travel to, &, we get a ton of American visitors year round.

"c'mon up"

g....

Not that big a deal. I'll probably just go to Toronto instead.

Hope you do- Toronto is awesome. Albany, not so much.

Well, I do feel for the people who were going to the Albany show.
It's not that Toronto is right next door.
Some people can't afford to travel that far (mostly because they paid a fortune for Fleetwood Mac tickets!). It's one thing going to a local show, and quite another having to go to one in another country, where you have to pay for hotels, etc.

I'd love to go to Toronto. But, had I been going to Albany (2 1/2 hours away by train)...Toronto (13 hours by train) would not exactly be an instant replacement.

SNicksed 01-15-2009 08:55 AM

NYC is much closer than Toronto. That's where I'll be going. ;)

From the Times Union

Fleetwood Mac cancels Albany showJanuary 14, 2009 at 1:31 pm by Michael Janairo, Arts & Entertainment Editor

The band was scheduled to play Times Union Center on March 17. No reason was given for the cancellation.

That said, now Mac has something in common with The Oak Ridge Boys and Lil’ Wayne, two acts who both canceled shows recently in Albany.

What Greg Haymes often says is that these shows get canceled due to scheduling conflicts — the group and the audience couldn’t find a mutually convenient time to get together.

With Fleetwood Mac selling tickets for about $50 to $150, though, you got to wonder if the ticket prices aren’t in line with the realities of the hurting economy. Lil Wayne tickets ranged from $67 to $152. However, the Oak Ridge Boys tickets ranged from about $30 to $40.

Publicists aren’t saying why the shows got canceled, though.

What do you think?

DavidMn 01-17-2009 04:19 PM

I'm guessing like Luke said, poor sales. I think 1 show in "upstate" New York was enough considering they are playing quite a few shows that are somewhat close in both time and distance in New Yprk/New Jersey. That being said, I'm guessing that Rochester will stay because it is now the 1 show for the upstate NY fans.
