Tension between Stevie fans and Lindsey fans

Rant time!

I've noticed a lot of tension between Stevie fans and Lindsey fans, especially on YouTube. I haven't really seen anything here, but anyway... It's like every Fleetwood Mac video I look at has 87 comments from rabid Stevie fans going "LINDSEY SUCKS!! WITHOUT STEVIE HE WOULD BE NOTHING!! HIS SOLO MUSIC DOESNT SELL CAUSE HE SUCKS!!"

For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbD4f...eature=related

Here's some gems:

"He probably did this because he is an ASS! That is why he left Fleetwood Mac..because he wanted to dominate the band and have things his way. He can play awesome guitar but beyond that..he sucks. And don't kid yourself...she admitted her drug addiction and got help for it...she is clean...is he? I will answer for you..No! She is the star of this band and he can't stand it plain and simple. That is why his solo material bombs..because he sucks!"

"my favorite fleetwood mac live moment is in this song when lindsey takes over singing after the first guitar solo. this is the mac at their best." (two thumbs down)

"yeah it's really sad how his ego was so big and his jealousy so intense that he couldn't even hide it while on stage...by purposely messing up and sh*t like that. And christine mcvie sometimes said some passive aggressive rude sh*t about her too. down with stevie haters!"

"He was straight up jealous of her and how the crowd took to her."

On the other hand, Lindsey fans are getting mad:

"Also, I believe that Stevie was the troubled member of the band then, rarely turning up to rehearsal. Also, isn't it interesting to note that when he left, his next solo album 'out of the cradle' sold just as much as 'behind the mask'. Just thought you'd like to know. *Ends discussion*"

"You are beyond stupid. Remember that Stevie wouldn't have made it big if it weren't for Lindsey. He got her into Fleetwood Mac. And if you're saying that Lindsey sucks, then you are saying that most of the best songs suck like "Go Your Own Way," "Monday Mornings," "Second Hand News," "Tusk" suck because he wrote them. Also you dumb dyke, Lindsey has had to help Stevie finish some songs because she didn't know how to. So, if anyone sucks...it's you assbag."

"I don't hate her, I'm merely standing up for Lindsey, nobody seems to care about him, and by the way, the reason I keep returning to this is because of his guitar playing abilities, I'm not looking to piss people off, well maybe a bit, but please cut the man some slack, I've seen quite a few negative comments about him, and yet when somebody says the same about Stevie they get ripped to shreds, oh well."

Here's a fun exchange:
"arent you forgetting who wrote most of their hits?...STEVIE and also she is the only member to have a succesful solo career"
"Actually it was Christine, and sisters of the moon, silver springs were not hits. So uh yeah, by the way, if at day 1 a direct choice had to be made as to let either Lindsey or Stevie join, Lindsey would have been the better option, artistically he did more for that band than anybody will ever realise"
"i never said they were hits, i said they were their best songs, and who was the only one with a successful solo carrier and an undying image?"

All in all: CHILL OUT, FOLKS. To be quite honest, Fleetwood Mac would have been nothing without Peter Green.

Having trouble deciding whether Stevie or Lindsey made FM popular after 1975? They both did (same with Christine, John, and Mick). Don't solely give the props to either one; it's ignorant.

And as for Lindsey's music "bombing", I'd like to add that Lindsey had a few popular songs in the 80's and Gift of Screws is highly rated. I've seen, like, one negative review. He's definitely not as popular as Stevie, but that doesn't mean his music "bombs" or sucks.

Why can't we all get along?

Because those stupid Stevie fans are always acting like idiots, I just cannot stand them. Anyone who says that she is better obviously has no idea what is going on/what happened in the band. They are all such big in-greats (Who got her into the band in the first place?). Lindsey is the one with the talent, who needs to be famous. After all, being famous doesn't mean you're any good, it just means you are willing to sell yourself out for what other people want. I wish that they could just open their eyes and see the real world.

*crosses arms and :ps back*

I like Stevie because she's unique. I have nothing against Lindsey, I just am not really into his style of music. I prefer Stevie generally, but I really like some of his stuff too.

Huh?

And how is what you just said any different than the quotes above? There is nothing wrong with preferring one member over the other...but I dont think either one should be dogged because you like the other one better. I too prefer Stevie and, in my mind, she is more famous because she plays the game better. I think she is a little more even tempered and interacts with the music community with more effort and success.

Jache77 and Rob130290 - proof positive that Fleetwood Mac and alcohol do not mix.

Unless you're playing bass for them, of course.

I believe that GOS was being sarcastic, hence the :p. ;)

Anyway, this is how fandom is no.matter.what. I'm part of quite a few fandoms, and this one is no different in the So-and-So is better than What's-Their-Face department. You should have seen some of the hate spewed on the American Idols boards back in the day. I mean...woah. I'm sure there is still venom spewed, but I don't visit the AI boards anymore.

People always want THEIR idol to be the biggest/bestest/most greatest in the world. It's competition of the fandom.

Yes, Lindsey doesn't sell as many albums as Stevie or with FM, but who gives a shiz. I don't. I only care that he keeps making more solo albums and tours.

I like 'em both. The feud is stupid and childish.

In my oppinion they all have something to contribute. Each member past and present in Fleetwood Mac has brought their own unique style to the band. I agree Stevie is probably the most famous, but in terms of artistic merrit Lindsey had the balls to make them veto a Rumours II in favour of Tusk. While it didn't sell as well as Rumours, theis begs the question if they would have been able to make another Rumours II if they had wanted? Would it have been as successful? I don't like every thing Lindsey has recorded on his solo records ,but I would say the same applies to Stevie. I think years from now people will still love Stevie, but I think Lindsey will be remembered just as fondly I think for taking chances with his music and how he was a great producer for some of the Mac's hits.

Though I'm more of a Stevie girl I love Lindsey's music and I don't think he's less talented because he doesn't sell as many albums as Stevie. I don't understand why this "feud" is going on.

Maybe Stevie & Lindsey have started these arguments with fake usernames!

[QUOTE=Lindsey Jr.;792741]Maybe Stevie & Lindsey have started these arguments with fake usernames!

Here's the clue!!! I always imagine Stevie and Lindsey registering on the Ledge. Stevie's nephew tells her about us, (look what I found aunt...) and Ms Nicks, bitten my curiosity finally she registers with a pic of somebody she found in google using random search (she's been told that Lindsey is already a member and you know, she has to go on with her menace and follow him down in all dimensions, including the new Internet one. hahaha) (I always wonder how come all that master reels material and other "private" stuff circulates).

What name would she use?? mmmm. Any suggestions?

Back to topic, I couldn't tell which my favourite is. I love all the members of the band, Mick for his crazyness, Christine for her english humor and being so easy-going and cool, John because he's...GREAT (but what I meant was...why don't you just leave the room...please, he deserves an Oscar or something hahaha). I also like some people of the FM family, like Richard Dashut, the late Judy Wong, Ray Lindsey, Sharon Celani, Lori Perry-Nicks, Ken Caillat, John Courage, Bob Aguirre...
and Stevie and Lindsey are Stevie and Lindsey. I cannot choose between people who have created such beautiful melodies as Dreams or Big Love, or people who write things like "no one knows how I feel, what I say unless you read between my lines" or "time recedes, with a fatal drop, dusty fury, on a mountain top, cut the chord if you can". coz they both can sing together such amazing songs as Beautiful Child or Crystal. You just have to hear them to realize how great both are and how better it gets when they are together.

I never mind about what people do, what religion they practise, which sexual tendencies they have or if they vote left wing or right wing. So I think this is not a matter of loving Stevie or Lindsey, but a matter of respect.

 That's it, end of story. So true!

The hatred between the two camps really gets on my nerves when I find it on Youtube etc, but thank goodness it never really comes up here...
I'm in the camp of "If Lindsey was playing a concert on one side of the street and Stevie was on the other side, I'd have to cut myself in two down the middle." I just couldn't choose, because they're both so special to me in different - and I would say, pretty incomparable - ways.

Lindsey Jr. 01-13-2009 08:05 AM

I think it's quite amazing that they can still be together in this band. Many of the "fans" that are posting that, are probably only 12 years old and don't know who Peter Green is.

mylittledemon 01-13-2009 12:28 PM

Whatever...

There are trolls who lurk the web to just post crap like that. I pay no attention to it. If you really love this band, the drama between Lindsey and Stevie just that...it's between them. By the time it gets to us it's like a secret that's passed around in grade school...it's just been blown out of proportion. And ultimately, who cares? The band is still out there and making music. Let them sort their own egos out amongst one another.

D.W-Suite 01-13-2009 02:48 PM

Yup, I'm Rob130290 on that. That whole rant started off because people gave the thumbs down to the comment about Lindsey singing in it. I hold nothing against Stevie. I just dislike fans of hers who would much rather watch her twirling about the place as opposed to caring about what any of the other individual band members are doing.

I'm not attempting to defend my actions.

All out Chiffonheads piss me off big time.

And also, nobody here is 12. Stop giving us the Peter Green made Fleetwood Mac story. Yes he made them successful to an extent. He did not write Rumours.
