FM to play Glastonbury Festival 2009?
 

I was reading our local newspaper yesterday which had an article about the 2009 line up and the latest Rumour (sic) is Fleetwood Mac and Madonna are being touted to play this years festival. As I live about 10 miles from Glastonbury and our local paper covers all the news concerning the festival I wonder if there is any substance to these rumours. If they were to be confirmed I would expect other UK dates to be announced in the near future. Anyone else heard anything?
UK fans need to cross their fingers and hope there is some truth in all this.

Glastonbury 2009-Site opens 24thJune, but the main event takes place over Friday,Saturday and Sunday (26th to 28th).

I have to say that if you were to believe all the rumours circulating about the lineup this year it would be one of the greatest gigs ever. Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily like to keep the guessing game going for as long as possible before any confirmation of the lineup.

I have heard that it is going to include Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Grace Jones and Fleetwood Mac - not confirmed but that is what was reported as possibility on the Guardian website who I think sponsors Glastonbury

This sounds good. If it happened it would be as exciting as the Us Festival in 1982. You guys are so lucky! Or could get lucky, I should say.

Last year's youthful Glastonbury Festival line-up could be replaced by veteran rockers such as Fleetwood Mac and ageing stars like Madonna.They are the latest names to be linked with an appearance at Worthy Farm this year, alongside Coldplay, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur.

Madonna, aged 50, who spent several years in Wiltshire before a divorce from movie director Guy Ritchie, is said to be concerned about her UK profile after the split and with her latest single, Miles Away, doing badly in the UK charts.
According to a showbiz source quoted in a national newspaper, Madonna is lining up some "selected" dates in the UK to woo fans.

The source said: "Whether one of these gigs will be Glastonbury is still being finalised."

They added: "It's a strange decision. Madonna's only just finished her deal with Warners and hasn't been in the studio yet so there is no new material to promote.

"After such a gruelling year, surely it would be better if she relaxed with her family and laid low for a while?

"Then she could come back next year with new material and everyone gagging for a tour.

"The thing with Madonna is she can't bear to be lazing about."
The Material Girl, whose recent Sticky and Sweet world tour reportedly earned a record £195 million in ticket sales – mostly in North America, is said to be desperate to win back UK fans.

The latest single was the worst-performing release in her 24-year career, entering the charts at No.39.

Meanwhile, Ritchie is reportedly dating socialite Jemima Khan, former wife of Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan.

Britpop band Blur were rumoured to be set for a headline slot after re-forming for a show in London's Hyde Park.

Bassist Alex James, from Dorset, revealed that the four-piece famous for songs Parklife and Country House were asked to play at this year's Glastonbury, but claimed their plans were scuppered by singer Damon Albarn's mum.

But Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon are said to have resolved a longstanding feud – Coxon left the band in 2002 – and the rumour mill is in overdrive as to who will headline Glastonbury 2009.

Some music critics say a Blur reunion at the Somerset festival, criticised for the choice of rapper Jay-Z as a headliner last year, would indisputably make it the UK's top music event again.

Glastonbury organisers have always refused to confirm or deny reports as to who might be appearing at the festival and said this summer's line-up had yet to be finalised.

It has been reported that organisers will reveal who is headlining on February 1, and the full line-up is normally confirmed on June 1.

Last year, the names of headline acts – Jay-Z, Kings of Leon and the Verve – were leaked in February.

If Fleetwood Mac play Glastonbury this year i will be physically sick, having been to glastonbury the last 2 years and the fact that i now live thousands of miles away in australia.

Glastonbury is an amazing festival, 5 days of pure hedonism.

PS. Madonna has never played glastonbury:)

If the Mac, Springsteen and Neil Young are playing I would be so, so tempted to go. That said, the festival is going to be very middle-aged if they are the headliners this year!

I know this is it's own thread but Richard Ashcrofts playing reminds me of Lindsey at times.

Glastonbury is always broadcast throughout the actual weekend on the Beeb (BBC 2 and BBC 4 to be precise).

Oh, that's exciting, if they end up doing it. Of course, I'm envisioning something like the Us Festival and its probably not like that at all. Michele
