Stevie versus the Mac.
 

What are the thoughts, and opinions, of the Ledgies on the Mac mega-tour versus the Stevie Nicks “solo” tours of the past three years.
I know that Stevie, Waddy Watchel, Al Ortiz, Jimmy Paxson, Lenny Castro, Carlos Rios, Ricky Peterson, Sharon Celani, Jana, Anderson, &, Lori Nicks, “recently" put on some utterly fantastic shows at the Borgata, Casino Rama, John Labatt Centre, &, the Motor City Casino. g...:angel:

Gimme Fleetwood Mac ANY day over a Stevie solo tour. (even if it is just a glorified Buckingham Nicks)

Her Soundstage was awesome. Waddy surprised me by playing some subtle guitar on a handful of songs. I think he ruins most of the rest of her stuff. I will always prefer her live and recorded stuff with FM. She tends to get lazy and a little too out of hand when solo.

Stevie is the best, without her the Mac are just a bunch of musicians, (pretty good musicians), but she is the catalyst that turns them into a Super-group.
Back in the day before Buckingham Nicks joined the Mac, Fleetwood Mac were an unbelievably good band.
Buckingham Nicks were also unbelievably good.
So, then, Lyndsey, &, Stevie joined the Mac, well.....you do know what happened next.
Recenty Stevie has been the only one to have any impact touring, with a pretty steady draw on her tours.
If it was not for Stevie this tour would not be happening,
(okay if it was not for Mick, John, Lyndsey, ((ooops -10 for spelling error, sorry Lindsey)), &, Stevie, the tour would not be happening),
but Stevie has to be the key component....g....:angel:

Now, I see it the other way around. She released all of one album prior to the Mac, they had released twelve studio albums and a Greatest Hits album. She was a nobody when she joined Fleetwood Mac, they were popular enough to play on television. Oh, and Christine McVie had the most hits in the band, including the first hit single. Fleetwood Mac made Stevie a star, not the other way around.

Maybe, but Fleetwood Mac had the record contract, whereas Buckingham Nicks got dropped after one album. The Mac were popular enough to have recently (at that time) been on television and they had gotten extensive coverage in music mags. Not to mention the big hits they had in Europe during their early years.

Nevermind. The fact that you can't spell Lindsey says all I need to know.

What I've heard of her live solo stuff has been hit and miss. I think she needs Lindsey to play off. And although I don't think Lindsey needs her as much to make an interesting show I think that's just my personal preference for weirder music.

I love them both as much so I want to say both for me are awesome Stevie puts on amazing show and so does Fleetwood Mac so for me I want to say Both I love both sides.:]:D;)

Right right. Can't say I agree with most things you say.

If it wasn't for Mick Fleetwood this tour wouldn't be happening. Considering he has participated in every single Mac tour ever, not Stevie.

I couldn't care less about how Stevie 'draws' people to her tours. Lindsey's (with an i) solo tour recently was friggin' amazing. I'd much rather see him live than her. She didn't make them a super group. When they got big with Buckingham Nicks onboard her role got blown out of proportion IMHO. Lindsey was always a better live performer. And always will be. Also as I said, Stevie's role has gotten blown completely out of proportion (probably because she was the most attractive of the two women in the band). Christine had most of the hits. I could ramble on forever about why I think Stevie is the least talented member. But I couldn't be bothered.

At a very slow time in FM/Stevie/Lindsey history, I once made the very bold statement (right here, on the Ledge) that I would go and listen to Stevie sing the phone book.

Well, I kinda think she took that type of attitude to heart. I love her. I went and saw her in Boston this past year, and she was awesome, as always. And, the one thing that I came away saying is, she feels like "home," to me. BUT, I wasn't chomping at the bit to get to that show, as I had in the past. Because it's a bit too predictable. Yes, she's still a big draw. Of course. She doesn't have fans, she has followers (and I'm one of them). But, I'm not quite as willing to follow multiple times as I was in the past. Not unless she takes chances and "makes" us sit through new stuff we "don't want to hear."

So, yeah, it's FM for me. Because Lindsey WILL challenge her. Maybe not this first leg but the time will come...and complain or not, we will get new material out of her. And if I see one bonehead leave their seats for a beer or to pee during a new song, I may Crazy Glue their ass to their seats. Pee during Dreams. You've heard it 98,542 times before!

I don't think Waddy ruins anything, I think he just brings something different along. But then again, I am a fan of Waddy via Warren Zevon, etc, not just because of Stevie.

I went to two Stevie shows this year, and they both rocked my socks, but I haven't seen the Mac live yet (other than my DVDs)...so I will have to wait and see what it's like for me.

I am disappointed I couldn't catch Lindsey's tour for GoS, but I had to choose between Lindsey and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds...and there was no contest. :shocked:

It's like what John Pareles wrote on his review of Tango In The Night:

"The members of Fleetwood Mac are better off together. As solo acts, Nicks is too narcissistic and spacey, McVie too bland, Buckingham too paranoid. Together, at their best, they're Every-lover. Yet even with Buckingham's ingenious arrangements for distraction, Nicks stays pretty insufferable on Tango"

I'm not even a fan of Nick Cave, I can't say I'm very familiar with anything he's done, but I would have made the same choice, if only because people I respect respect him.
