You didn't have 'Lily' on your list, but Stevie went on record that Lily was herself.

Amber lyrics:
You've a daughter born a Gemini
Name of Amber born today

Stevie is a Gemini. The only name from that list that is not Stevie is Julia. Julia was Robin.

Stevie from a Sky News interview in 1989:
"I feel I can write about myself through Sara and that people will understand. Because I can't write all these songs and call them all Stevie [laughs] I have to come up with something different. So I pick out names that I especially love like Rhiannon and Gypsy, even though gypsy is not a name, to me it is a name... um, Juliet of Romeo & Juliet, Alice of Alice In Wonderland. So I write my own stories about me through them."

I agree here, and I also want to say that there's a little bit of Stevie in every American, & a little bit of American in every Stevie.

Well, who is Sara? Stevie always goes on and on about the song being about Mick, but WHO is Sara?

Sara Recor, Stevie friend who Mick left Stevie for, who later became Mick's wife.
But like the quote I posted before, even though the names might reference a real or fictional person at the end of the day Stevie is just writing about herself.

Sara is another aspect of Stevie. She has said she liked the name and has said that if she ever had a daughter she would have named it Sara. She has also used the alias "Sara Anderson" when staying at hotels. In the song "Welcome To The Room...Sara" it's herself she's talking about.
As others have already stated, in most cases the women in her songs are almost always herself. Also, most of the time when the song talks about "she" and "her" again, she's talking about herself.

Don Henley would tell you it's the name of the baby of his Stevie aborted. I'm guessing Sara is a bit more symbolic... perhaps Stevie's inner child.

Could be a compilation of things.

Heartbeat never dies -- when you build your house I'll come by . . . those lines confirm what Henley said.

Other lines sound like it's about Mick and Sara.

Other things sound like just Stevie.

What about Emmiline, in Seven Wonders?

I would like to know more about these happenings with Mick and Don Henley...I had no clue....

vermicious knid 11-12-2008 03:21 AM

Sandy Stewart wrote "Seven Wonders", but Stevie changed "all the way down you held the line" to "all the way down to Emmiline"

Stevie often is inspired by literature, and I wonder if she was aware of the story of Evangeline, also said to be named Emmeline LaBiche. Emmeline and her lover Louis were French settlers of Canada, but they were separated when their people were expelled from the area. She spends years searching for him, until they reunite in Louisiana. It was made into a movie in 1929.

I wondered that too when I recently read the story of Emmeline, although I was only aware of her name being Evangeline. It's a great love story though.
