Someone suggest some good music for me.

I'm bored out of my mind I need some new music to listen to.
I'm blessed to have so much music at hand, but it seems no matter
how many CD's or DVD concerts I have it's always hard to find one
I really want to listen to. Whether I'm doing serious listening or just
putting on some for me to play guitar to.

Any suggestions. But please no Mac related, I've got them and Elvis
covered. But even more important, I would prefer material that was
recorded very well.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Unless you really like jazz, New Age, or light classical, I dunno if I can be of much help - lately I've been listening to Keiko Matsui and Deep Forest. Vocalists: June Christy, Abbey Lincoln, & Ella. A little Mozart. The nerves can't handle much rock & roll these days.

I can relate, but I'm not bored, it's just due to the 'obvious' I am having a hard time re-focusing myself on music. All the brand new cd's I purchased on the 20th during Deb & I last shopping spree are still sitting where I left them (as are her fiction/novels) Having a hard time trying to listen to 'em

...But it is 'coming back to life' slowly.

I can relate to this. I have, or can easily get, more music than I know what do do with. Whenever I get bored with it, I find myself falling on a small band called The Connells. They are a band from South Carolina that was a one hit wonder in Europe, but never really got much fame in the US. They aren't on iTunes, which is a pain, but Amazon has most of their stuff, I think. They have been compared to REM a lot, but I just do not see that in them. If you go to their site, you can find some music videos, most of which are also on YouTube. I would recommend the albums Fun & Games, Boylan Heights or Ring if you like listening to full albums. If you are a song person, the songs "'74-'75" and "Slcakjawed" off of Ring, "Fun & Games" off Fun and Games, "All Sinks In" off of One Simple Word, or "Over There" off of Boylan Heights.

I don't know what kind of music you like, but I would recommend checking these guys out (Most of these songs are on YouTube). Anyway, I'd never miss a chance to get publicity for good bands that are unkown.

Well, what kind of music do you like? I love Fleetwood Mac, but that's because I think they're actually closer to the Sex Pistols than most AOR/soft rock groups, about which I have little interest (though I do love Cheap Trick -- that's soft rock right?). Mac are the artists in that genre. I guess that's what I seek out. I like all kinds of music, but I like the artists within those genres.

So I guess I'd recommend first and foremost:

Talking Heads (77-80)
Public Enemy (88-94)
The Smiths (everything)
Roxy Music (everything)
New Order (everything)
Elvis Costello (77-86)
Pet Shop Boys (everything)

You are looking at it the wrong way,
no matter how many records you have, you can always come up with the same feeling.
I have over 2000 records plus dvd's and videos
and i sometimes get the same feeling.

If you want well recorded music,i'd suggest late 80's/early 90's Yes
Recorded with bells and whistles.
The music itself is ****e though.

Some records i've given time lately

Chris Isaak:Forever blue
Willie Dixon: poet of the blues
Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris:All the roadrunning
V/A:What's shakin'
Supergrass:Supergrass
Counting crows:Hard candy
Dusty Springfield:A girl called dusty
Iron Maiden:A matter of life and death
Bangles: doll revolution
Cowboy Junkies:Black eyed man

and as always
Santana:III

Some interesting suggestions so far. I'm very interested in knowing what others
like when it comes to music.

Markolas, I'm glad you mentioned jazz. Made me think of a Cassandra Wilson's
"New Moon Daughter". I haven't listened to that in a few years. A great CD!

Estranged4life (Brian), I'm so glad you posted on this thread. I can only imagine
it's hard for you to focus on music right now. Hang in there brother. I do believe
music can help heal the soul.

GoS, I'd never heard of The Connells before, cool.

Truefaith, Public Enemy!! What tha heck?? (teasing bro). I have a Talking Heads
CD somewhere, did they put one out titled "Naked"? Hadn't played that one in years.
I don't have any Elvis Costello, I need to pick one of his CD's up. Which one?

Littlewolf, The reason I originally asked for music that was recorded well is
because I just purchased some new speakers and I've been testing them out.
I know you don't have to have well recorded music to enjoy it. And sadly most
isn't recorded, mixed and mastered right. But if the music itself is good you can
enjoy it on any playback system. You had some great suggestions, Chris Isaak's
"Forever Blue" is one of my favorite CD's to play guitar to. Mark Knopfler is one
of the best, I should buy more of his music. I like Counting Crows, Dusty S., Cowboy
Junkies too.

A few new titles that I really like are:
Shelby Lynne "Just A Little Lovin'" (great music, great sound quality).
Shawn Colvin "Polaroids".
A. Krauss, R. Plant "Rasing Sand".

I love all kinds of music, except rap.

Some of my favorite artist:
1. Elvis Presley
2. Fl. Mac (and of course that includes Lindsey and Stevie solo).
3. Pink Floyd
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan
5. Robert Cray
6. Dwight Yoakam

the list goes on and on................................

listening to a disc I made called the "Funeral Songs Disc" that Debbie was to play at my funeral 'whenever' that day was to be (Two of those songs, sadly, were played at her funeral Wednesday)...trying to get back into the music as best as I can.

Originally I had written a loooong detailed response but my computer froze or something and it got lost. SO. I'll answer your last question quickly: Armed Forces.

Don't think this is exactly what you mean, but
Genesis: A trick of the tail
The surround version is soooo much better than my old vinyl,
the sound improvement is unbelievable.
Now that i think about it,i'm not sure if i've listened to cd version at all.

Sting: ...Nothing like the sun
A great great record and very well recorded LP

Can't really recommend any new acts either,i'm so out of step with any new bands/artists.
Same with recent releases too.
Just counted,from 2007 i have 12 releases,they are all re-releases or archive releases.
From 2008 i have 5 releases
Re-releases/archive releases:
Theme time radio hour with Bob Dylan
Link Wray: Link Wray (it doesn't actually mention if it's from this year, think so anyway)
David Bowie: Live Santa Monica 72

And very unusually for me two new releases from this year:
Lauren Harris: Calm before the storm ( her debut)
Drive by truckers: Brighter than creation's dark

More suggestions, don't know about playin' guitar along to though

Los Lobos:Kiko
Richard and Linda Thompson:Hokey pokey
Slade:Nobody's fools
Ten Years After:Undead
Hot Tuna:Burgers
Rick Nelson:Greatest hits
Jellyfish:Bellybutton
George Thorogood:Live
Curtis Mayfield:Roots
Manic Street Preachers:Forever delayed
