Ex-Blink-182 drummer and popular disc jockey are both treated for burns

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and a popular disc jockey were critically injured in a Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four people, authorities said Saturday.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane went off a runway and crashed on a nearby road, she said.

Hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia.

NBC News reported that Barker, who also starred in MTV reality show "Meet the Barkers", had performed Friday night at an event alongside Perry Farrell, the former Jane's Addiction singer, as well as Gavin DeGraw and Goldstein.

'Terrible and tragic'
It was not clear whether Farrell and DeGraw were also traveling with Barker and Goldstein.

Federal officials confirmed that two crew members and two passengers were killed in the crash.

"It's absolutely terrible and tragic," Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

Bergen said the Lear 60 was headed to Van Nuys, California. She was unable to confirm the names of those on board.

Barker and Goldstein perform together under the name TRVSDJ-AM.

After Blink-182, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) — pronounced "plus forty-four." He appeared in "Meet the Barkers" with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, to whom he was married at the time. The show documented the former couple's lavish wedding and life.

Goldstein at one time was engaged to celebrity Nicole Richie.

Dear God...this is horrible. I hope Travis and Adam make it. Travis has three small children.

Also, various sources are reporting that Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw were not on the plane.

It seems that Travis's assistant was one of those that perished. He was only 29. :distress:

TMZ has learned Travis Barker has been burned from the waist down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM's face was severely burned and is being tended to right now.

We're also told the tragedy is all the worse because one of the passengers who died, Chris Baker, Travis' assistant on "Meet the Barkers," was married recently and has a new baby.

This is horrific. My prayers go out to those who lost friends/family and to Travis and Adam. :(

Yeah. This is so random, and very odd that the two that survived are well-known. My heart goes out to those who know the deceased.

The killed passengers and two crew members, all from California, were identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills; co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad; Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City; and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles, NBC News reported.

This is horrific. The families of everyone involved will most certainly be in my thoughts....:distress:

tmx just released video of the crash site & you can hear travis screaming for help~ i have to admit, it made me cry~ they must have been so scared & in so much pain~

i have always liked travis, he is a unique soul~ i am glad he wasn't killed~ my thoughts & heartfelt sympathies go out to everyone involved~ what a sad, sad thing~

mandy moore flew to be by dj am's side as did travis ex, now again girlfriend shanna~ i don't think they told his kids yet~

& poor chris baker, i remember him on "meet the barkers", he was always making me laff~ he was about to celebrate his 1st wedding annivesary~ & his brother was killed in a motorcycle accident this summer~ alot of sadness for his family~
