"Go Your Own Way" in Rock Band 2

I realize no one on this board probably cares about this but so be it. Let it slide down the forums and into nothingness. I need to splurge!

I've played Rock Band 2 and unlocked "Go Your Own Way" and WOO-HOO! SO much fun. It is very well transcribed into the game. And let me say -- as a player who is particularly good at drums, WOW they really made the drum part hard! This one of my all-time favorite drum parts and it is a TOUGH road to travel - especially the verses and after the bridge.

That being said, the guitar and vocals are fun as hell to play, especially in a group setting. "Rock Band" really is one of the best social games you'll ever find in the history of video games and I am very psyched that Fleetwood Mac entered into this arena. Since the programmers had master recordings from Rumours, I can only hope that they'd add "The Chain" (which would be GREAT, seeing that all instruments really switch up a lot and play a key role in the song) somewhere down the road.

I love Rock Band! I'm just hoping GYOW will be on the PS2 version. They have a tendency to drop songs when they make it for other systems...

Zombie 09-15-2008 05:39 AM

Haha! That's awesome!

I love both Rock Band & Guitar Hero - I've got GH here at my place, and my best friend has the first Rock Band over at her place.

You're right about the social aspect of the game. I joined some other friends over at her house this past Friday to have a little Rock Band party - a bunch of pizza, a bunch of beer, and a pile of dorks flailing away at Iron Maiden tunes.

We snagged T Rex's "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" from the download store, so next time I go over, I will bring my fog machine, feather boa and bullwhip, and finally live out my dream of being Marc Bolan when I grow up.

I'll make sure to turn my shrieking, spastic girlfriend's mic off, though, lest she ruin my groove.

Haha, yeah, I am very happy my favorite band finally has a song on in this series of games. It's a blast to play this song.

The Chain would make a great song addition to Rock Band 2. It would be very fun for each part - especially the bass solo, hehe.

Hell, I also want I'm So Afraid and Come to be on Rock Band 2. It'd be epic!

That T. Rex clip - yikes! There are WAY too many tambos on that stage.

From G4:

http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/reviews/1833/Rock_Band_2.html

Rock Band 2 has a killer track list seemingly compiled from every mix tape you were proud of in college. There's a smattering of indie rock like Dinosaur Jr.'s "Feel the Pain", Sonic Youth's "Teenage Riot" and The Replacements' "Alex Chilton" with hits you forgot were so awesome (Smashing Pumpkins' "Today"), the classics like Journey's "Anyway You Want It", Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue", and Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" and the songs that, despite all the other great music, your friends will inevitably end up playing over and over and over ad nauseum. Just see how quickly they select Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". There are also a few bands that don't seem on par with the rest like System of a Down or Paramore, but somewhere out there, they are someone's guilty pleasure. Harmonix kept the lid on a couple tracks until recently, like AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock", Metallica's "Battery", from back from when Metallica was good, and Guns n' Roses' "Shackler’s Revenge" off the as-of-yet unreleased "Chinese Democracy". Sadly, if this highlights "Chinese Democracy", then one can only hope Axl Rose will be co-opted into some sort of b-list celebrity reality show that delays the albums release until approximately never.

If the track list doesn't grab your interested yet, Harmonix promises over 500 songs available for download by Holiday 2008 and for a nominal $5 fee you can import every track from Rock Band as well. Now, not all the songs are as fun to play on every instrument, but a helpful box in the song select menu rates each song on its difficulty for each instrument. Yes, guitarists will have to suffer through drum solos, bassists will suffer through guitar solos and vocalists will have lots of time for hand claps, but guess what? That's what happens in real bands!

That's like, uber cool! I have the first rock band, and it's pretty fun. Looks like I'll be saddling up my horse and traveling down the mountain to GameStop pretty soon! :D

I think the Chain would be awesome because it switches up so much and every instrument/part has something unique going on. Plus it's one of those songs half the people in the room would be like "huh? I don't know that" but halfway through they'd say 'ooooooh right right, "NEVER break the chain..." and would soon be shouting out "RUNNING in the SHA-dows" at all the wrong times until the end - that happens a lot with Rock Band :-) The designers were given the master recordings for GYOW so here's hoping another Rumours track will make it on! I think Chain's the best bet. I could see Don't Stop but that'd be a little boring/easy. Dreams/Gold Dust Woman possibly (they're popular enough). Obviously NGBA isn't happening (only 2 parts!). YMLF could work pretty well too.

With that said, I'd LOVE to see "I'm So Afraid". Especially a live version, doing the drums and guitar would be fantastic. But the album track too. But I don't think it's mainstream enough for them to do.

And finally even though it'd never happen, I'd kill to see Eyes of the World or Don't Let Me Down Again. Guitar would be TOUGH and I think it'd open the eyes of some younger players out there to how good Lindsey is.

I was reading that the "classic rock" songs featured in Guitar Hero saw a tremendous rise in sales and the game is supposedly attracting new, younger fans to the older music, according to the Wall Street Journal.

I can see that being true - the song selections for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band are all over the board, which I think is really cool. In GH3, you've got Foghat next to Iron Maiden next to Slipknot next to Living Colour next to Eric Johnson, with all kinds of random in between.

I'm all for things that help open the eyes of the kiddies to all the different music styles out there.

The most challenging song in Guitar Hero 3 is "Through the Fire and Flames" from a British power metal outfit called DragonForce, and I imagine the attention and album sales they've snagged due to having that song included in the game have left Yngwie Malmsteen curled up in the fetal position somewhere, sobbing.

In the XBox 360 version of Guitar Hero 2, I hear you can win a Malmsteen award for hitting 1000 notes consecutively without messing up, but I don't suppose that did too much to boost his record sales.

PS - I went to Mayhem Fest this past summer with a friend, and DragonForce was one of the headliners - they're absolutely hysterical. I hate it when metal dudes have better hair than I do.

I read somewhere that Motley Crue made 5 times as much money off of a Rock Band download for their new single over their I-Tunes downloads. That's pretty impressive.
