May: Bekka Performed in Nashville

The Tennessean (Nashville, Tennessee) May 29, 2008 Thursday

SPOTTED . . .

* Miley Cyrus shopping at Victoria's Secret for a few essential items. Now, now, don't jump to conclusions she was buying an adorable pair of pink socks. The megawatt Disney star was also overheard, while standing in the checkout line, saying, "I just love spending money." Don't we all Miley, don't we all.

* Keith Urban getting his new Bentley fresh and so clean at the {}Shur-Brite Car Wash over the weekend.

* Ugly Betty actress Vanessa Williams having dinner with a gal pal at {}Jasmine in Brentwood. Apparently she's in town for a guest spot in the new Hannah Montana movie.

* Sheryl Crow checking out her friend, Greta Gaines, performing at {}Family Wash. She was seated in the audience next to singer-songwriters Holly Williams and Chris Janson.

* BMX champion Dave Mirra being very generous by buying a round of shots of Asom Brusso 11 year-old tequila ($185 apiece!) at {}Agave for eight pals before toasting to his two lovely children. The athlete was in town for the Journeys Backyard Barbecue.

* Mindy McCready celebrating with her brothers at the annual Memorial Day Weekend White Party at Bar Twenty3, which was packed with people dressed in white, including one new bride, Tekila Carter, who attended the party in her wedding gown.

* Kimberly Roads and Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Trisha Yearwood checking out the goodies assembled by stylist Claudia Fowler in the Haven Gift Lounge backstage at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas.

* Delbert McClinton and Bekka Bramlett performing at the Williamson County Democratic Party's "Make It Blue Monday, Volume III" party at Saffire in Franklin.

*}Gretchen Wilson walking down the aisle in her cap and gown at First Baptist Church in Lebanon for her graduation ceremony. Wilson received her high school diploma and Charlie Daniels was the guest speaker.

I already kinda knew it, but it's good to see that Bekka isn't part of the "establishment" when it comes to politics in Nashville.

Yes, it doesn't seem like she and Toby Keith attend the same fundraisers:).

HEADLINE: Local voices warble for candidate Kerry

Lately, the Democrats are getting most of the Nashville music publicity, with the star-packed, every-Monday night Kerry-oke shows at Two Doors Down. In these shows, big-deal John Kerry supporters take the stage and sing karaoke versions of songs that range from glorious to woeful, but always in good fun. Tonight's lineup: folkabilly queen/Lyndon B. Johnson fan Nanci Griffith, singing-songwriting honcho Rodney Crowell, Grand Ole Opry member Pam Tillis, huge-voiced Bekka Bramlett, Small Town Saturday Night man Hal Ketchum, Ruby Lovett and James House.

How will the Republicans respond to this Music City affront? Will Lee Greenwood crash the party and demand Bush campaign contributions of $20 per version of God Bless The USA? And what about the independents? Will Ross Perot show up at the nearby Christopher's Pizza with pie charts and bar graphs in hand? Will Ralph Nader put on a special "Rock For Ralph" gig at the Tin Roof? Seriously, we want to know.

Anyway, Griffith and her buddies will begin singing at Two Doors Down beginning at 6 p.m. Cover charge is $5, and it'll cost more than that if you dare get up and sing a karaoke version of Maybe It Was Memphis with Ms. Tillis.

I intern at a studio here in Nashville and have come across Bekka's name here and there listed on backing vocals.

Now that sounds like a cool internship!
